MEC .410 9000

fromagfromag Member Posts: 25 ✭✭
Hello just purchased a MEC 9000 progressive .410. Keep getting a dent at top of hull about 1/8 of an inch from top and about 1/8 of an inch deep. Crimp is looking very good, just the dent. Don't know what to adjust to stop it. Don't have this problem on any of my other MEC's. Thanks for your help. Mark

If this is an indentation completely around the shell and not just on one side it sounds like the timing of the crimp die cam and crimp depth screw are such that they are at a point where they are "pinching" the plastic and binding and collapsing the hull instead of "ironing" in the crimp by sliding by each other as intended. Most of the time when this happens it's at the base of the hull just above the brass; in the case of Remington's, Federal's, and others of straight wall design. The old compression formed hulls like the Win. AA and Rem. RXP(in other gages) are thick enough in the base to prevent it happening here but could occur up closer to the mouth where the plastic is thinner. Try increasing the crimp depth or backing off or moving forward the cam to move the point where this pinch is occurring.

Thanks for the info. The dent is just on one side of the hull. It seems to start at the station before the final crimp. It does not increase the problem during the final crimp. I am using Winchester AA hulls. Thanks for the help. Mark
