Sierra Load Data for .223 question

TopkickTopkick Member Posts: 4,452 ✭✭
I am looking for data specifically for the 69 gr HPBT Match bullet.

I have IMR 4895, but will look for another powder if need to.

I am trying to load a 500 yard round for a match.
I'm shooting a Ruger MK II Target Grey w/ 26" heavy barrel.
I have a 6x24x50 on top.

Some direction requested as to data specific to the Sierra bullet.

I have the Lyman #48 manuel, but it's not specific to the bullets I have.

Thanks!

    I'm thinking you'll need a tight twist for that bullet--probably 1 in 9". I don't believe the standard Ruger MK II is that quick. But I might be wrong. 60 gr. Hornady v-max will just stabalize in my 1-12" Sako.

    EDIT: As my Dad said when he was 94 years old: "Sometimes I'm wrong!"

    Your IMR-4895 will work O.K. but personally I prefer AA-XMR-2015 or V V N-140 for better results. You need to find an accuracy node at the very upper end of the scale since failing to do so will result in the bullet falling into the transonic range at 500 yards. Accuracy will suffer at the longer ranges.

    This is my data based on my 2015 load with a 300 yd. zero:

    Range = 500
    Velocity = 1680
    Energy = 432
    Drop = -34.4
    Drift (in.) = 30.8
    Drift (MOA)5.89
    Total Drop = 71.5
    Clicks = +27.6
    MOA = +6.59

    Pray for calm weather since these little bullets at this low velocity get pushed pretty far left and right.

    Best.

    Thank you for all the replies!
    I will C&P all of them and will check it out.
    I know 500 yards is pushing it , but I have done a lot of shooting at 650, just dialing up high!

    The mildot scope I have is irreplacable in this scenario.

    Thanks again!

    Sierra's accuracy load for the 69gr is 25.5gr. of Reloader 15, Winchester 205M primer, 2.26 OAL.
    this is what I'm using in my custom Rem.700 with 1-8 twist bbl.
    It does 1/4in. at 100yds.
