what is a good load of h 414 in a 45-70 405 gr cast bullet in a marlin guide gun

    That's not the best powder to use in that application. It's too slow: You won't be able to get enough powder in the case for decent velocity. IMR3031 is a good powder for that purpose.

    16 grains unique, CCI LR, 405 Lee sized .459 and tumble lubed, Star Line brass, TCR 87 with bull Custom shop Barrel, topped with a vintage Weaver V-8. Uuuum uuum good. [:)]

    I have run lots of H870 in a 45-70. Leaves lots of un-burnt powder in the case and the bore. A duplex load with unique leaves cartridges and bore clear. Interesting to shoot over fresh snow.

    I like IMR4198 and Accurate Arms 5744.
