RadarRadar Member Posts: 2,308 ✭✭✭
What are your favorite loads for your AR ? My barrels are marked 5.56 nato 1 in 9 twist which i guess lighter bullets work best but i have never tryed anything over 55 gr. What do you shoot ?

Hornady or Varmint Nightmare 55 grain SP w/crimp groove, CCI #41, and Exterminator/WC844/748 to achieve a velocity I'm comfortable with.

My favorite is the 60 grain Hornady V-max in my 1-9" AR. I have tried 62 grain M-855 bullets and they are fine for plinking and will hold well out to 300+ yards. You should be able to go to the 69 grain Sierra if you want, once you get into the low 70's it will be dependent on how well your rifle likes the combination.

For plinking, 55gr Hornady SP with 25.8gr Varget. Getting ready to try some 75gr Hornady HPBT out of my 1:7 twist barrels though.

I shoot a ton of Nosler Varmagedon or Midway Dogtown (was/is same bullet) 55 grain HPFB. My load is 26.5 grains of BLC2 ignited with either a CCI 450 or 41 primer. I mostly use LC or WCC brass, just because I have buckets of it. This load shoots great in just about anything I feed it. This is my general plinking/make stuff splat load.

Hornady 55gr. soft points or FMJ's.

Any small rifle primer, and a dose of IMR-4895.

Great low cost ammo. Work well for deer, too.

Also testing out H335 now to save my Varget. Loaded up 24gr and 24.5gr with 55gr Hornady SP to see what shoots best. These will be plinking loads. Both my ARs are 1:7 twist

I also have a 5.56, 16", with a 1/9 twist and 24.5 grains of H335 under a Berrys 55 grain pill is a great plinking load for mine. If I do my part it'll shoot one inch groups at 100 yards.

H335 is great powder with lots of muzzle flash.
