Starting to reload for 1911 45, and will use FMJ mostly, due to range restrictions, but would like to find a good substitute bullet that I can mold at home. Anyone have a favorite?

it will be hard to top the standard 230gr round nose. It
works in everything made to take the 45 ACP and every maker
of bullet molds has one in their inventory. If you use an alloy
of medium or higher hardness, then you can forget about needing
gas checks.
Any of the H&G68 clones will be very good.
There is no need for a gas check with ANY .45 Auto bullet. Alloy of 10-14BHN is more than adequate.
230gn FMJ-RN may be ubiquitous, but it isn't as accurate in any of my .45s.
You can buy great bullets from mastercastbullets.com. Their 200gn L-SWC in their "soft" alloy is inexpensive and very accurate.
If you're looking for the "one size fits all" 45-ACP bullet,
