There are a few posts that reference the powder H4895x. Is this different from H4895?

That was the post that got me wondering...

I have a fairly new bottle of H4895, but there is no x on it...is all the current stuff H4895x?

The Hodgdon website does not mention H4895x...

    redpete,

The 'x' used in your reference is for the Hodgdon Extreme powder line. As explained in the other thread, the Extreme powders have been shortened and modified for ease of reloading without a change in burn rate or performance. If you go to the Hodgdon website there will be another explanation also.

    Best.

That is exactly right, it just meters better.

All of the newer stuff is the "Extreme". That is what you need to look for.

It is also a lot less temperature sensitive. That is really a big reason for the change too. I found as much as 400 fps difference in 90-100 deg. F with a load, than I got at -20 deg. F with the older IMR 4895 and H4895. With the new H4895 Extreme I was able to test it from about 95 deg. F to -18 deg. F and it only showed about 50 fps difference.

What sort of +/- variance can I expect when dropping charges from a Dillon 650 powder measure when I am throwing charges of H4895 in the mid to upper 40's.

My goal is hunting loads for whitetails...will the powder measure on the Dillon throw close enough loads for hunting accuracy?

Just make sure you weigh the charges when going to the X powders.
Your Dillon might throw a different charge.

Once I get it set, how consistent will the powder drop be with H4895?

As to consisity (?) do it yourself, drop ten charges, weight the total and repeat. Ken
