Tumbler

MrGunz22MrGunz22 Member Posts: 2,086 ✭✭✭
What do you guys recommend? I searched old posts and it seems like everyone recommends something different. I don't have any new casings. I've been collecting my spent cases for a few years so I think i would like to clean them up first. I'd like to spend under a $100 if possible but if all that will buy is a POS I can spend more. I want something that will get the job done right.

Thanks

I bought a Midsouth kit with tumbler, media, and separator for under $100. Holds about 300 .223's.

I didn't even think about a separater. It will probably save a lot of time.

What about a sonic cleaner. It seems a lot faster. Which is better? Tumbler or sonic cleaner

I have 2 Lyman 2500's and a Dillon 750. Lymans work faster. You need to determine how much brass you want to handle per load. Always go bigger than you think you'll need.
My experience with Midway tumblers has not been good. While they are cheap, many only lasted 3-4 months for me. I have two sitting in the corner right now that don't work right but it costs more to ship them back than they're worth. The first one I bought lasted several years but the current production is worthless.

Just buy a sack of rice, pour it and your brass into a pillow case, toss it all in the dryer on fluff, and save a few dollars.

Do you get a better shine with white rice or brown? [:0]

The Lyman's are on sale now at Cabelas. Might go that route. Still not sure

I have a pair of larger Dillons a 2000 and a 2001 both are excellent and will hold about 500 '06 cases at a time with no strain.

I've got an old Thummlers tumbler model B that keeps on rolling along.
Also have one of those vibrating ones I picked up at Harbor Freight.
    It works pretty decent.

Gee, I got one in 2002 and have used it about every weekend... still working fine. Brass is clean and shiny within an hour, can barely hear it if I go upstairs.

Now that said, if I had to do it over again, I'd go for a large capacity wet drum tumbler and stainless pin media. Never needs replacing. Will pay for itself pretty fast.

Starts out white, ends up brown. [:D]

My Cabela's tumbler cost me $50.00 and runs like a top. It's got an on/off switch and is very quiet.

I bought a large Lyman 30 years ago. I've often run the thing non-stop for days on end, and it must have cleaned a zillion rounds. It just keeps on truckin'.

I'm just starting in this endeavor. Looking at what a tumbler does, it didn't seem to me to be a component where more dollars would give a significantly better result.

I bot the Frankford. It suits me. I'm loud and slow as well. [;)]

And without a progressive, it cleans brass far faster than I can load it.
The extra juice just wasn't worth the squeeze for me.

another vote for THUMLERS TUMBLER ULTRA VIBE 18 had mine since 1972. and I know I have cleaned over 350,000 45acp with smaller amounts of 38 special and all kinds of different Calibers of rifle brass.

I've had an RCBS tumbler for 8 years, not a problem with it. Use polish in walnut media with a dryer sheet. Works for me.
