loading for a 41 mag 12" contender

smokeymt46smokeymt46 Member Posts: 58 ✭✭
have a 12" contender barrel and have been loading 200 gr swc with Unique and 210 gr xtp hp 296 winchester powder. Do you have some better loads or some suggestions. I don't load to max just within a gr or gr and a half so anyone who loads for the contender please give me any info on this loading.
Thanks
Larry

I never liked Unique or 296 in my 44's. 2400, BlueDot and 5744 worked best for me with cast bullets.

The Lyman 48yh edition doesn't have data for the contender. Regular 41 Mag pistol data has jacketed 200 and 210 using IMR4227, AA9, H110
    BlueDot plus Unique and 296

    I shoot a Smith model 57, 6".
I load 13.2grs Blue Dot behind an Oregon Trail 215gr SWC with a WLP primer.

10.3 grains of unique powder with the xtp-hp bullet for my 41 mag. I have fired this load out of every possible 41 magnum that I could. I have a marlin 1894fg, S&W model 657 and a 14" contender. All had excellent results and I would not change a thing. JMHO Oakie

    19gr of 2400 will give you a little over 1200fps [;)]

Being over 50 years old and stuck in my ways. for big boomers like the 41, 44 mag and 45 Winchester Magnum I sure like 2400.
