Stock wood choice?

anderskandersk Member Posts: 3,627 ✭✭
I'm going to be building a muzzle loader from a kit ... the standard wood offered is maple, but cherry and walnut are offered as an option.

[?][?][?]What would be your choice? [?][?][?] (This is for a "Hopkins & Allen Underhammer.")

I built my Tennessee Mountain Rifle from a kit, and it came with cherry wood. It has a nice grain and curl to it, it is a beautiful stock.
Of course walnut is one of the classic gunstocks too.

Kinda depends upon the type rifle. Iffn it is a eastern flinter I would go with maple, but if a Hawken/plains/trade rifle, I would go with Walnut. Cherry I would save for furniture. Just my .02, have fun whichever and show us a pic of the finished rifle!

OK, if it depends on the type of rifle ... I'm going to build a Hopkins & Allen Underhammer long gun. Thanks for the input. I'm going to place my order pretty soon.[:)]

Maple or Cherry, take your pick for which color of pretty you want.
