I'm ordering supplies and have some questions

OdawgpOdawgp Member Posts: 5,380 ✭✭
I am looking to shoot PRB out of the new hawken. its a 50 cal.

I have looked online and have found there to be 2 patch sizes .010 and .015
there are also 3 dia of rdb. .480,.490,.495

question is, which do i use?
how would i find out?

I have read about slugging the barrel but find that to be rather archaic. I don't plan on shooting comp. I feel that slugging is just a little over board for what i want.

It was much easier to buy supplies for the inline it took 50 cal. So this is all new to me.

    My .50 T/C Hawken likes .490" round balls & .015" patches.

I build muzzleloaders -- generally .50 caliber roundball rifles. The combination of .490" ball and .015" has worked well in every rifle I've owned or test-fired before passing it on to its new owner. It loads relatively easily and shoots more accurately than I can.

My TC Hawken likes .490 balls. I use that pillow ticking from Dixie for patches, I think it is .015
No need to slug the barrel, after all, this is a primitive weapon.
