  I don't think I've ever seen a Spencer with either a stock attached, or anything that even looks like one could be attached.
  So I don't know if there is any difference. I know that cuts in the recoil shield, screws large enough to be attachment studs, and an indentation under the grip in the strap are what distinguish colt military models from the civilian models.
