Can anyone explain the difference between a regular 22-250 and a 22-250 Ackley Imp? Is the rifle modified for the Ackle Imp and/or could it be changed back to the original 22-250 or would you have to get a new barrel? Also, are reloading dies, etc. available for the 22-250 Ackley Imp?.........Help!

The AI case is blown out to remove any body taper as well as adding a 40* shoulder. The barrel had to be set back (if an original 22-250 barrel) to be chambered in the AI configuration. And, it will need to be set back to rechamber it back to the factory 22-250 chamber.

Ok, cool. So what kind of performance improvment are we talking?

If nothing else the brass will last a lot longer than a normal 22/250, and trimming will rarely be needed like on a regular 22/250.
All the die makers make good dies for the 22/250 Ackley, and a gain in velocity is also possible with the AI.......

The AI version has the same capacity as the 220Swift, ergo if run at the same pressures as the swift it will equal the swift.

There is no magic to the case shape, simply capacity (how much powder it will hold) and pressure (force). All the bullet cares about is the volume of gas it's being pushed by, and the average pressure that that volume is being applied at.

22-250AI dies are available from all major manufacturers. Case life is much better and you get an additional 100 fps to 150 fps more velocity. I would keep it 22-250AI and never look back.
