purchases from the "X-MART" stores

Has anyone else noticed how walmart and k-mart treat people who purchase firearms?
I went into walmart the other day and ended up buying a little Rossi 22/410 combo rifle for my daughter. It was only $120.00 bucks and I was pretty happy with the price and product. Then the I went through the paperwork and background check and paid for the gun. What I was surprised at was the way I was treated after the sale. This little punk kid tells me I can't walk through the store with the gun I just purchased. He calls a manager and I had to wait around five minutes for him to show up. The manager then looks over the paperwork, asks for my ID, again, gives a look up and down, picks up the gun and says," Will you follow me sir". He then walks me out of the store, hands me the gun and says, "Have a nice day". It felt kinda strange, almost like I had did something wrong. I figure now, I did do something wrong. Never will I buy another gun from them. Ill spend the extra money to buy from the local gun shop that supports the 2nd amendment.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

    Another bit of info....

I was in Wal-Mart the otherday buying some paint. As it was mixing, I talked to the cashier. Firearms came up, and concealed carry. He said that unless you are a LEO, you will not be allowed in the store. If you are caught with a concealed weapon, even if you have a permit, you will be escorted by security to the back and arrested.

My gun is prettier than yours, and it's a Glock!

Gee, if a state allows concealed carry, I believe you can carry it just about anywhere, except the normal Federal buildings, Post Office, Schools, etc., but WalMart?? Sounds like their own policy to me. What states are we talking about here anyways?

My brother bought a rifle from WalMart last year and they did the same thing in escorting him out. I personally do not see nothing wrong with that, but I guess it depends on how they did it or what the situation was. At gun shows, people look normal walking in and out with rifles exposed. Not so normal I guess at WalMart. GD

The rifle was in a box...

Shortly after Sept. 11, I went to k-mart and was just looking around. I asked the guy in the sporting goods dept. if they had any 45acp. ammo. He told me that k-marts management had decided that due to the terrorist attacks on 9-11 k-mart would no longer carry handgun ammunition. I told him I understood, all those handgun wielding hijackers must be stopped. If only someone could have kept them from purchasing the handguns and ammunition none of those planes would have been hijacked. Then I reminded myself and him, with a little sarcasm in my voice, that the hijackers didn't have handguns, they had box cutters, and I asked if they discontinued carrying box cutters as well????? He didn't know what to say. I just laughed and walked away. I did however e-mail k-marts make a suggestion sight, told them what had happened and suggested the people who make store policy remove their heads from their a--es.

Go to the service desk and ask for a complaint form, then send it to the GO. It those turkeys get enough complaints you can bet their idiot policy will change.
4Godandcountry: If you had tried to buy a box of ammo for that gun they wouldn't sell it to you. Just "company policy"

I do not know your state laws, but in Kentucky if you have a concealed carry permit, and you enter a building which has a posted notice at the door that concealed weapons are banned, they CAN NOT ARREST YOU. The only thing that the building owner can do is to ask you to leave. This only applies to private property and public businesses, entry to Government buildings and Schools is an arrestable offense.

Lessons learned her boys are to stay out of these places. If you have to pay a little more from your gun shop owner atleast you wont get treated like an idiot. The marts do nothing for our gun rights either. Next time you go in one ask them if they contribute to the NRA or any other pro gun funding agencies. Can you trade in or sell a gun in these places, ask about specialty ammo for certain calibers, talk intelligently with anyone behind the counter ? The marts are running your local guys out of business and they are the ones you'll need when these "places" stop selling firearms altogether. It cant be that far away. Just my two cents..

I agree with MFI 100%, Kmart and Walmart do nothing at all to support your rights. So you spend a few more dollars at a REAL gunshop, but you get your questions answered, you are not treated like a criminal and you are helping to support the whole firearms industry.

I bought this computer at Wal-Mart in 1999 and they took it to the front desk for verification of paperwork and then carted it out to my vehicle and loaded it into the car. Just a policy. Didn't bother me abit and I did't have to handle it until I got home.

From comments others have made, if you go to a real gunshop, you may still get treated like an idiot, but at least not a criminal ... I think all the ones around here that treated customers like idiots have since gone out of business ...

Our Walmart supports our hunter education and 4-H projects. Same policy holds true there as well. Myself and other police officers who
purchase from them have been told that if we purchase a firearm there
we will have to be escorted to the front door. The people that staff the sporting goods are good enough to asked us what firearms might sell better than others for our area. I think a lot has to do with the area the store is located in. If there are a lot of bleeding hearts or rainbow coelition types employed there, that could be the case. vegetarian-Old indian word meaing poor hunter

I purchased a rifle at a local Wal-Mart about five years ago and just as the Manager came to walk me out, I decided to purchase some extra Ammo before heading to the range. The Manager almost fainted. He called an Asst. Manager to come back and carry the ammo to the front door where it was handed to me and the manager walked me to my car. I must have looked like a terrorist I guess. Must have been the coat and tie that threw him....

I asked the Manager what the problem was and he said it was his policy not to hand a person a firearm and ammo at the same time.
Never went back to that Wal-Mart and never will again...

Wrote a letter to the Main office, got a letter that sorta said they were sorry for any inconvience...All firearms have been purchased via
    Gun shops since.

I was thinking to myself that none of you guys were too offended because you didn't immediately ask for your money back. But doesn't wallyworld and kame-apart have a policy on no return for guns or ammo. I wonder how that works if you haven't left the store yet with the gun?

I dont know if you can return guns before leaving the store, but my brother bought a winchester 270 at wallyworld and after he got it home he mounted a scope and went to the range to sight it in. It would not chamber the ammo. He took it back to fartmart and they wouldn't exchange it. He had to send it back to winchester to get it fixed. Luckily he had other rifles to deer hunt with because he didn't get it back until well after the season ended.

If it had not been a Birthday present for a family member, I would have walked away. In Illinois there is a 24 hr. waiting period on Long guns. There was no way to find another one and still make the deadline I had to meet. As I mentioned, I have not purchased a firearm from them since.....

i think this may be one of the reasons k/mart went under. i know that scince they quit handeling guns and ammo i have boycotted them. i still shop at the local walmart and the person in the sporting goods has got to knopw me and treats me fine. i buy ammo there frequently as well as other sporting goods. in fact i just purchased a depth finder last week end for my boat. carl

I have not and will not buy a gun from Walmart or any other Mart.I am willing to pay more to support my local gun dealer.I think it is a matter of time before all Marts no longer sell guns.If you have run your local dealer out of business, where will you go if this happens? Also,my dealer knows the difference between a 22 long rifle and a 30-06.I doubt if 1 in 10 Walmart employes do.

Only thing I buy at the marts is my 22 ammo. The two gunshops that I deal with don't carry it anymore cause they say their cost is more than the marts sell for. For ALL my guns and other ammo (that I don't load myself from supplies fronm a GUNSHOP), I go to the GUNSHOP.

I don't know where you were, but in this state there is nothing they can do about someone carrying concealed with a permit other than ask them to leave the store. If they asked a cop to arrest you around here for that, if you had a carry license, they would get laughed at.

My understanding is that Wal-Mart corporate policy is to abide by local laws. Managers in most stores are not necessarily very up on what those laws are--if a store is out of line, it's up to the customers to let the boys in Arkansas that one of their stores is not observing the laws in force. Trying to educate the manager is not usually productive--get the guy's name for your query to corporate and speak up. Just walking accomplishes nothing. Gun owners who stay silent are supporting the Brady bunch by default.

K-mart is different. What do you expect from a corporation that includes sponsors who are on the fringes of the most virulent anti-gun people. Speaking of walking, K-Mart gave rise to its own demise. Years ago one of its employees was Sam Walton, Wal-Mart's founder.
