I have 3 Winchester 1897's I would like to know when they were manufactured: 12 gauge, solid frame, serial #253422; 12 gauge, takedown, serial #364308; 16 gauge, takedown, serial #627646. Thanks for any info. Gunswapper.

    The first two serial numbers can be researched or lettered by the Cody Musuem, which will give you the exact dates they were received in the warehouse. Model 1897 serial number 627646 was manufactured in the year 1916 per the Polishing Room records books.

    I forgot to add;

    Serial 253422 should be a "D" series gun, but could be a late "C" series gun.
    Serial 364308 should be a "D" series gun.
    Serial 627646 should be an "E" series gun.
