Remington 788 .44 Mag. question

Picked up one recently and the clear finish on the wood has a few slight "drip" marks on it. Did they dunk these stocks or might it be a refinish job? Also the butt plate is slightly longer than the end of the stock! Sanded stock or did they come this way? Thanks

    asop,

It sounds suspiciously like someone had their way that stock. It would be rare to see a factory stock with drips combined with a slightly oversize butt plate. Most likely this was an attempt to clean up the stock and refinish it.

    Best.

+1, no factory stock will exibit drip or runmarks.

The stock on the 788-44mag I had was finished very good from the factory.
