    Hello carman,

    The value of your Model 1885 Single Shot rifle highly depends upon these three items;

    (1) Is it 100% factory original (i.e no non-factory modifications)?

    (2) The graded condition... how much of the factory original finish remains on all major parts of the gun (e.g. the barrel, the receiver frame, the stocks, etc.)

    (3) Does it have any factory special order features (e.g. set trigger, target grade sights, deluxe walnut stocks, checkered stocks, pistol grip, shotgun butt, Swiss butt plate, non-standard barrel size or length, etc.).

    Now, with that out of the way, I very much suspect that what you have is a Plain Sporting Rifle with a 26-inch, No. 1 size, octagon barrel, plain trigger, and standard open (sporting) sights.

    If you will provide me with the serial number, I can tell you when it was made (to within a few weeks). If you can post pictures of it, I can answer most of questions I just asked you, and I can quickly give you a value estimate.

    In order to insert a photo into a post on any of these forums, you must first upload it to a hosting site - your own or one of the many freebies available on line such as http://www.kodakgallery.com/Welcome.jsp or http://s30.photobucket.com

    Next, go to that site and copy the URL for the page with your photo - typically such as http://www.PhotoHostingSite/YourAcct/PhotoName.jpg

    Be sure you have the proper code string. This should end in ".jpg" and you can confirm this by right clicking on the image and selecting "properties" from the resulting menu options.

    Next, click on the image icon in the tool bar above the text window (yellow square, middle of the five with pictures), which will give you two bracketed - [ ] - UBB commands: "img" and "/img" . . . .

    Insert the URL you copied between the two commands.

    Give it a few minutes - sometimes these do not update quickly.

    Then you *should* see the image as part of the post.
