Stevens model 73 light primer strikes - need fix?

Single shot bolt .22 giving light primer strikes as in it won't go bang. This is when it is held about level. If you tilt it down quit a bit it'll fire.
I took it apart and cleaned and lubed. Wasn't as dirty as I expected and it worked correctly for 2 shots then back to only when pointed down.
Firing pin seemed to slide ok. Do I need a new hammer spring? Or?

1, Make sure the chamber is clean. sometimes the round will stick and the ctg will move slightly forward when the firing pin strikes and it will not fire.
2, Make sure the spring is clean as a piece of debris will rob the energy as well.
3, Check the firing pin make sure it is not broken, has burrs or just has rounded off a little over the years. It can be streached if needed or replaced.
4, Excessive head space
5, If it looks like a new spring is needed just buy a new one unless you really like playing with that kind of stuff. You can spend days trying to make a $6.00 spring.
6, Call Al at The Gun Garage. He should have whatever you need. 479-524-2038
Dug thru boxes of springs but nothing fit.
Not much room in there only will take 1 to 2 coils.
Finally had to make one.

Since you have the old spring, IMO it's a safe that Wold Springs has one that will replace it. Measure your spring and give them a call.

It's not a type of spring you can measure. See my link above to see what it looks like.
