Remington 760 280cal.

Question for the experts, I recently bought a remington 760 in a 280cal. When I inquired about it with a local gun dealer, I was told this caliber was not made in the 760 series and had to have been rebarrelled. The barrell is a remington barrell with the 280 stamp and sights are on it.
Was the 280 made in this series or was this gun dealer unaware of what he was talking about?
Thank you...

Over the years I have owned several of them.
And one said they were made 60-63 & another said 79-80. Was it both and how can you figure out the date of mfg of the gun?
9EN 33 is stamped on the bbl
So I am guess that I read it right and it was made Oct 1966?
