This was made in 1998 according to serial number. Did Browning produce these with high grade wood ?

I've got a 1885 in 454 Casull with a way above average piece of
wood on it. This was a remake from someone in Wyo. I believe so
don't know if the stock is original or not though. I have also
had a few B78's over the years which have had very nice wood on them
    as well.

My 22-250 has a nice piece of would with some figure in it. I wouldn't consider an exhibition grade stock, but it is quite attractive.

    John,

Browning has always had nicer wood, than most of the rest of the big 5 manufacturers. That said, a lot of the 1885's of that era had wood that were way above average, for even Browning.

Pictures would be nice, as we all like to see beautiful wood.

    Best

    EDIT 1

    pingjockey,

    Yes...that is factory wood.

    EDIT 2

    MFI,

That wood on that is SWEEEEET, for factory wood.

Having worked in Browning R&D for many years prior to retirement, the figure in the wood you get is pretty much "luck of the draw". That said, even average wood is usually pretty nice.Every once in a while you will get "lucky" and get an exceptional one.

I've had 6 different Browning Low Walls and a couple of High Walls over the years, and all had above-average looking wood. IMHO, striking off the shiny glare of the stock Browning finish (with very fine steel wool) improves the looks significantly.

    But maybe that's just me....
