Need some M1 Carbine Advice

Just paid a nephew $150 for it. It's beat up. The stock is cracked severely in several places (glueable), exterior of barrel is pitted, light rust on receiver, missing handguard, etc. On the plus side, it shoots, feeds and ejects, is otherwise complete and comes with a couple of two 15 round magazines, a box of ammo.
I know little about these carbines other than this isn't a rare version and would like to end up with a dependable shooter.
I'm considering replacing all the springs. I'll check for and replace any parts with obvious wear after I get the gun. Anything else I should consider replacing?
Thanks

Sometimes they can be had reasonable. There a bunch listed on the auction side.
Some on ebay with $15 starting bids.
If it's shooting good it might not need any other parts.
Maybe Singer? Nahhh.
If it were mine, I would take it to a gunsmith who specializes in repairing & refinishing US military firearms, preferable a "service trained armorer". There are too many parts that need inspection by someone with a trained eye (& gauges); a "technical inspection" will cost < $100. If it can be repaired for a reasonable cost, then refinishing might be a good option.
Good condition USGI wood is not longer common or cheap; I would expect to spend $100-200 for a decent stock & handguard.

You will also find bolt teardown videos. As long as you have healthy resistance on the extractor spring (push it up with your thumb), then Leave The Bolt Alone!
