Does anyone know the years of manufacture of the Iver Johnson Pony. It is blued, appears to be well made, is a .380, and has the Jacksonville, Arkansas address on the slide.

    And to only add that they were carried in the IJ catalog between 1978-1992.

    As outlined in the I. J. book, most of those assembled at Jacksonville were in 1984-1985.

    According to the BB, this model gun was made in Jacksonville, AR starting in 1983. According to the Std. Cat. of Firearms, the gun was first produced in 1975. I'm looking at number IJ000527. Does anyone have any info as to when that would have been made?

    It was the F.I. model D before IJ started making them. And the Colt Pony before that, made by Star, if my memory serves me right.

    The IJ serial prefix was used only after the 1983 move to Jacksonville, and Goforth's book lists quantity by year but not specific serial numbers:

    1983=0, 1984=3773, 1985=3395, 1986=25, 1987=0, 1988=1, 1989=313, 1990=164, 1991-92=0

    This seems to indicate sn IJ000527 was made 1984.

    Thank you HRF! In MD, no handgun made in 1985 or later can be transferred unless it is on the Handgun Roster. No I-Js of any model are on the Roster.

    FYI, the Roster was to do away with Saturday Night Specials and other cheap/inexpensive handguns. According to the Baltimore City Police the result is better armed criminals. They now steal better guns.
