parkerizing metal prep...

I was going to "blast" parts but then I ran across old thread that mentioned using 1 part muriatic acid and 4 parts water to strip off the old finish and etch the metal.

Any opinions on this technique?
Will it also remove small amounts of rust?
Do I need to do any additional prep after this before dropping the parts in the tank (washing, additional degreasing, etc.)?

I use full strength muriatic acid in my shop to clean steel. It strips rust really well, but I haven't used it diluted so I wouldn't know for sure on that. It will also etch the surface. I don't know if it's the correct finish for parkerizing, but it looks close to me.

We just bead blast any parts and wash them in solvent before dunking them.
