Looks military, similar to sight on my US M1 Carbine, except: female dovetail on bottom, which measures approx. 9/16" at widest point; sight measures about 15/16" wide, excluding windage adjustment knob; 7/8" length front to rear.LhYcUS.jpg[img][/img]http://imageshack.com/a/img924/4662/7ZGlcK.jpg[img][/img]http://imageshack.com/a/img923/1555/yxAgIT.jpg[img][/img]http://imageshack.com/a/img922/7928/pNGi4f.jpg R stamped on top of elevator.

Looks like an Springfield 03A3 rear sight with maybe the ears ground down - googled it and the images shown look like it. First deer rifle was an Remington 03A3 30'06 Springfield - so it looked familiar to me.

Yep, 1903-A3 rear sight with the side guard "ears" rounded off. R = Remington mfg.

Looking up photos of 03-A3's, looks like you gentlemen nailed it! Careful looking at "ears" shows tool marks from rounding off. Can't help but wonder why... Thank you!
