    I believe it is part of the bolt group from a Craftsman submachine gun.

    bobski, take that thing back to Sears and ask them for a refund or tell them it is broke.. They don't have one... exchange it for other tools..

    I came to the conclusion that it was a depth gauge due to the fact there is a clearly seen ruler on the side of it and the poles that come out of it have a thing that lines up to tell you how deep the hole you may be cutting or routing or whatever. Its definately a strange looking mechanism never seen one that could do 2 holes at the same time though.

    yes and you know what i figured out exacltly what its for ontice the gap between the two poles it is for correctly measuring where to put deadbolts on a door (for either side the ruler on it could be to help you put the Piece that holds the bolt on at a correct distance for optimum strenth.)
