I'm going to have to do some research on McCain. My father-in-law can't stand him. Says he's an embaresment to the Republican Party. I know he's been wishy-washy on some issues but I'd like to see where he stands on gun control, illegal immigration, ect. I read his book and was impressed.

I have heard alot of rebulican bash him, an not a whole lot of substance.

Personally I can hardly bear republicans, but I cant stand democrats.

I will be looking for alot of info on him before 08, thought I know my vote wont matter here in CA.

I hear Mc Cain breaks from the rep party line alot, so do I.

I saw a youtube video of him speaking on immigration, and I agreed with him.

If he is "republican" when it comes to gun rights, immigration, and welfare, and independant on others, he has my support.

If I find he pays lipservice to immigration crackdowns and gun rights, he can rot.

I know he supports amnesty for illegals and wants to close the dreaded but non-existant "gun show loophole".
He "can rot" as far as I'm concerned.

Here you go. Take your pick:

    Pro-gun McCain http://www.ontheissues.org/Domestic/John_McCain_Gun_Control.htm

    -or-

    Anti-gun McCain
    http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a3acfef8c2e28.htm

He's a tool. A phony. At best he'll be a grab bag on most issues. And sadly, he's probably the best option available at this time. What a laugh.

Anyway, where are we going and why are we in this hand basket?

McCain is a genuine American Hero. There is a lot I like and respect about the man, but there is no way in hell I can vote for him, even if it means the Hildabeast will be the next president of the United States.

If my choice is between John McCain and Hilary Clinton for president, I'll waste my vote on whoever else is on the ticket, even if it's the communist.
The road to hell is paved with COMPROMISE.

    Ugh.

He'd get my vote only in the event that I couldn't stomach the Democrat nominee.

It would be the first time ever I've pulled the lever for a Democrat for POTUS, and I've been voting since 1986.

McCain is an anti gunner. Will not get my vote.

Somebody on here the other day called him McShame. That's a good name for him.

Just another version of the same basic person, being served up to the American people as a viable "choice" for supreme leader of the one-world/socialist movement.

Party does not matter, they all do basically the same thing if elected.

It's the old "lesser of two evils" trick for the umpteenth time. Seems to work rather well.

Up until October of last year, McCain looked to be a sure thing for the GOP nomination. But, I believe he's played way too coy about it and has been reluctant to disclose his stance on many key issues since then. Perhaps he's waited too long. We'll know in about 15 months - or less.

Regardless of how anyone wants to judge him politically, he deserves our respect for his military service.

Why can't someone just run for pres that actually has the best interest of the country at mind AND heart?

Although I am a wartime vet I would not vote for him. My vote, hopefully, will go to Tancredo. He is the only conservative so far.

I have a lot of respect for McCain but he would only get my vote if he is the nominee as I can't bear the thought of any of the Dems becomming Prez.[;)]

I am beginning to think you are correct. Maybe Mr Romney, but I am not sure where he stands on gun issues. I like Rudy but he is anti-gun. Seems like all folks from NYC are anti-gun.

Check out the positions of Allen McCulloch. May have to move back to NM so that I can vote for him.

Mr. Romney signed into law an "assault weapons ban" while he was Governor.
He said that's what the pro-gun lobby wanted.[xx(]

For CA Sucks: McCain opposed the recent tax cuts, opposes controlling the border with anything other than a "virtual fence" and the Second Amedment Foundation has a fair amount on his voting record. They give him usually, I think, a D or less.

P.S. I used to work for the People's Republic of Palo Alto, where do you live?

For Stanman: Thanks for this info, I was wondering how a Republican gets to be governor of Massachusetts.

Anyone have a definitive answer on Giuliani since he is supposed to be way ahead of McCain?

I believe that that John McCain served his country and suffered greatly at the hands of his captures and for that reason I mean no disrespect to him, However, I think that his views are wrong and think that he is more of a conservative Democrat than a Republican!
The real shame is that there is no one yet who is a good choice for the Republican party and as for the Democrats, Clinton or Obamma are a disgrace!! Either one of these anti-gunners have me looking for an air tight box the bury my firearms in and wait for BATFE to come to confiscate my libery.
