Question about AK/AR

I remember hearing 35 years ago that the North Vietnamese could use .223 in AK's. I didn't believe it then and don't now. How could it generate enough pressure to do anything but rattle the bullet down the barrel at 30 fps? Can't see it cycling either.

Anybody else remember this?

There are AK's made in .223, but they are not very common and doubt that they were arround in Vietnam. As for using it in one chambered in 7.62x39 would be the same as trying to use it in your .308. The bolt wouldnt even hold the case to make the firing pin hit the primer.

You know how adolescent kids can be know-it-alls. Argued the point back then but nobody listened "they can use our ammo but we can't use theirs."

Don't know what made me think of it 35 years later.

I heard they could use our us 60 mm mortar rds in their mortar tubes
but we couldnt use their Chi com mortar rds in our tubes? because of the extra wires around the tail fins, but us mortars still worked in the Chinese mortar tube.

I never heard the rumor about the AK's using .223?
