It was a tough season. Early snow pushed elk down to the private land leaving us very few elk to chase.
If it wasn't for the Rookie from the great nation of Texas we would have been skunked.
First, this is what the country looks like...
Here is a picture of camp in the snow...
This is me after 4 hours of uphill and zero tracks...
Here is the Rookie's 1st elk...
The Rookie with his trophy...
Rookie, if you make it in here...nice job, you represented your fellow Texans very well in the big woods. You are welcome back in my camp anytime.

Great pics, too![8D]
Were you guiding or were you hunting also?
Did you notice the bolt is on the wrong side of your rifle?[;)]
I'm heading for South Texas in January and will post pics when I return. Best part is my 19 year old stepson will be going with me for the first time. The kid lives and breathes hunting and fishing.
One day I hope to hunt Elk. One day soon...
Very nice lookin country - where was (is) it?
Great pics, too![8D]
South West Colorado, unlimited over the counter unit so the exact location is top secret.[;)]
Great pics Lew. Thanks for sharing. Wish we would see more of this type of post.

Not guiding, just hunting with a buddy, a very lucky SOB buddy. I wish I was guiding, then I would have an excuse to not shoot anything. Have fun with you stepson. I think teaching the next generation to hunt is the key. Glad to here he is into it already, have a great time and post some pics.
The roockie with his trophy...

Somone stole your elk and left you with just the head.[:o][:D]
Thanks for the update!
Anytime you get to spend time in that kind of country with friends and/or family you didn't get skunked even if you didn't get the game -- You got memories for a lifetime [^][^].
The "Rookie" will never forget that hunt either [:)].
A cool moon rise..
My favorite meadow that the elk never visited...
More mountains...
Camp from another angle...
No horses, everything comes out on your back or in a sled...
Here are my tools...
Funny, it will let me edit my reply but the the original post[:(!]
