GET LOST!

Knew that would get you to look. Where could a man who is fed up with his life take about two hundred thousand dollars and get lost? This man is old and not in the best of health. He may have five years left if he's lucky. He's not looking for a woman to go with him either. He would need pretty good weather too! Any ideas? I know this board and there has to be a lot of ideas out there even with some of the older posters moving on!

Costa Rica is a great place to go. You could live like a king down there for 200K. It is regarded as one of the cleanest Central American countries, it has a large European influence, lots of English spoken, lots of Americans live there, a fabulously beautiful country. I am not knowledgeable about the quality of medical care available there. No oppressive police presence like many Latin countries, last I checked they had no army. The weather is great, you could get a place on the beach and have nice sea breezes all the time.

I've considered a few, but if health is an issue, then medical services will not anywhere near the level they are here. I've read & heard great things about Costa Rica and Brazil. Understand there are some real nice spots in the Phillipines, as well, but I don't know if being an ex-pat there would be all that great an idea given the political situation there.

Another issue would be firearms - would the individual want to continue to hunt / shoot if he does so now? That would probably be even more limiting.

Quiet and warm? If not, there are lots of nice places in Michigan's Upper Penninsula that are pretty remote but within driving distance of good hospitals and casinos!

Quiet enough that you might see deer or bears in the backyard!

My uncle lives in Paradise, Michigan (actual city name in the U.P.), it's small but relaxing...

So many possibilities.....first you get a nice motorcycle, a couple of tatoo's, leather biker outfit, and a red bandana headband....now you still need to generate some income over the next few years to cover expenses. You begin touring North America and writing about your exploits, (sort of like CBS's Charles Kuralt)...the adventures and the people you meet will make great subject matter. You could sell the idea to a publisher who would bankroll the trips or stop every few days and post you're adventures on a website....should be able to get some sponsors to help along the way (Motel 6, Texaco, Harley Davidson, etc.)

One day you could work at the local Walmart wearing your blue vest and as a greeter.....next day partying with retiree's in Florida, being a "Tornado storm chaser", and drop into gun shows all over the country signing celebrity photos.......no cares, no worries, no committments....."Rosie the travelor"

Ya know Bee, that doesn't surprise me what you say about health care, because here, really, the health care stinks in many ways. I am healthy 51 yr old, don't smoke or drink, pay Blue Cross $184 per month with a $2400 annual deductible, and on the few occasions I file a little claim they act like they don't know me. I could see Costa Rica having a superior system. Maybe their system has compassion for sick people.

Yep, the UP of Michigan is quiet and has lots of woods you could hide in! You could always just come and hide at the Beast house, that should be enough for your cab fair!!!

Allen,it`s all a trade off, they have no millitary,
so all the money they save goes to healthcare, education, etc.

I`m not saying the USA should try this!

You didnt say where you are now Rosie, but a person can have quiet right in their own hometown..
For warmth.. how bout Hawii or Florida... Arizona? Still in the States with the benefits but very nice..
We all get fed up every so often.. its normal.. we all want to run away too... it normal human nature...
There are places in Florida or Hawaii (sp) never could get the spelling of that one... where you can live and no one will ever bother you.. Florida is rather laid back, and sometimes a bit too quiet for my taste... I like to raise a little h*** sometimes.. *LOL

Nice big Alakanak tent in my backyard. Wood stove, cot or queen sized air mattress. Can spend the rest of his days doing a lot of hunting and fishing.

I have been around the world and back, seen some right beautiful places around the globe, but there is no place better or as beautiful as the good old USA. Pick your climate, its here, pick your population, its here. If you wanna escape do it in the U.S. If you wanna vacation, go see Greece, Rome, ect. ect. But remember, in foreign countries, unless you speak the native tounge, you should be extra careful because Americans are disliked in many parts of the world so choose wisely and be prepared.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

That cash will go a lot farther in Costa Rica than in Switzerland.

I would go to Crete. The health care is likely not great, but Greek the food is one of my favorites, the people are warm and friendly and it is cheap to live there.

Well my perfect place with 200 grand would be Boston, GA. It is a place where Land is cheap. Away from center city life. People hunt anything all year around( this would be illegal if the cops and judges wasnt doing it to). This is where my father was raised I visit every summer and never want to go back to city life. I love the peace and quiet.

If you will blame gun makers for every shooting then blame car maker for every car accident.

I can take him into the woods here. Build him a campfire. Set up a tent. He won't be bothered. I could do this for oh, about a grand.
    Personally guided as well.

PS He needs to send the tent in advance as well as other gear.
