Kerry Gives Viet-Nam Vet the Bird

Not verified yet, but true to Kerry's character (or lack thereof)

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/5/31/225546.shtml

quote:Kerry 'Flips Off' Vietnam Vet

Democratic Senator - and certain presidential nominee - John F. Kerry gave the middle finger to a Vietnam veteran at the Vietnam Memorial Wall on Memorial Day morning, NewsMax.com has learned.

Ted Sampley, a former Green Beret who served two full tours in Vietnam, spotted Kerry and his Secret Service detail at about 9:00 AM Monday morning at the Wall. Sampley walked up to Kerry, extended his hand and said, "Senator, I am Ted Sampley, the head of Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, and I am here to escort you away from the Wall because you do not belong here."

At that point a Secret Service officer told Sampley to back away from Kerry. Sampley moved about six feet away and opened his jacket to reveal a HANOI JOHN tee-shirt.

Kerry then began talking to a group of school children. Sampley then showed the tee-shirt to the children and said, "Kerry does not belong at the Wall because he betrayed the brave soldiers who fought in Vietnam."

Just then Kerry - in front of the school children, other visitors and Secret Service agents - brazenly 'flashed the bird' at Sampley and then yelled out to everyone, "Sampley is a felon!"

Kerry was referring to an incident 12 years ago when Sampley confronted Senator John McCain's cheif aide, Mark Salter, in a Senate stairwell after McCain repeatedly offended POW families at a Senate POW hearing. Sampley, whose father-in-law at that time was MIA in Laos, followed Salter into the stairwell and, when they emerged, Salter had a bloody lip and a broken nose.

Sampley's group, Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, has garnered huge national attention and been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post and on MSNBC's Scarborough Country. Tens of thousands of Vietnam vets have registered their opposition to Kerry through Sampley's group.

Clearly Sampley has gotten under Kerry's skin once again.

Being one who doesn't try to stir up emotions, one could say that the objection would be better delivered to Bush at the ceremonies at Arlington. One could ask, "Why are you here, since you went AWOL during a time of war?" [:(]

But then again, common courtesy is no longer common, is it? [;)][}:)]

Hairy, your feelings about Bush are well known but the charge of his being AWOL has been proven false and even the die hard Democrat political operatives have abandoned the accusation. Medical records have been produced documenting that Bush was at the air base during the time that his critics claimed he was absent and at least one witness has come forward to testify that he was present at times and that any absences were routine, occurred with all Guard personnel and were not limited to Bush, and were within policy. If you want to criticize him for serving in the National Guard to escape possible combat duty that's a legitimate comment but to continue making that AWOL charge at this point is nothing less than an outright lie.

Hairy professes to be a patriot --- yet never misses a chance to slam our Commander in Chief (even when it's been proven that the AWOL garbage was nothing more than democratic garbage).

I'd bet Ted Sampley would be interested in meeting Hairy, and would give him more than the finger!

Sometimes these threads get off the track.

    It's easy... Kerry is a one-world, U.N./communist.

Oh, yeah... he also wants to reject the Second Ammendment and confiscate our firearms.

    You said "OUR", not "MY".
Furthermore, unless you have been called to service at this moment, he is not your commander in chief.
You can call him your savior, your king, thse terms better describe the feelings you have for him.
He is not the commander and chief of the people.
He is not the commander in chief of the government.
He is not the commander in chief of the country.
He is the commander in chief of the military WHEN CALLED INTO SERVICE.

I have newfound respect for the man! How dare anyone claim ownership of the wall and deem who is or isn't fit to visit?

"I'm here to escort you away from the wall."

Hey buddy, hate to tell your self-important, self-absorbed self this, but those guys up on the wall gave up a lot more than you did and it's their wall, not yours!

Flipped him the bird? I'd have done a lot more to that preening, strutting cock than that.

And Hairy has a legitimate point: if Kerry, who served, is "unworthy," then how is the man who avoided combat duty, who slashed vet's benefits, closed down VA's, and sent our people into harm's way under-equipped worthier?

My dad got spit on as a Marine returning from Vietnam because of traitors like Hanoi John. His Congressional Testimony saying U.S. troops were raping, torturing, maiming innocent civilians didn't help. Wonder how Kerry got his knowledge that American's were doing this? He was a 4 month boat Captain and somehow captured the whole war and the actions of our troops in that time.

Shame on him if he stepped foot near that Memorial.

If he would of flipped off a Marine near that Memorial not even the Secret Service could of protected his rear....The Angry Mob would of gotten him.

Please don't quote me as professing to be a "patriot" for that term conjures, to me, a Republican (read Cheney) wearing his US Flag Pin, on his $2,500 3-piece suit, eating his filet mignon and pontificating to the other Republican diners how this GREAT NATION is built on the blood and tears of our soldiers.

Of course, neither he nor any member of his family served in any of the military services and our Republican diner has very fond memories of attending Harvard along with Our Leader (who, one must admit, served gallantly protecting the Homeland from Vietnamese Migs threatening Texas). [:(]

Isn't it funny how those that have no combat or military experience have all the answers?

Some aren't smart enough to know that even a retired military grunt like me is subject to recall into active duty. Yes, that makes him my Commander in Chief as I am in the inactive reserves.

Hairy takes paper clips as POW's, and Monkey man says "Flipped him the bird? I'd have done a lot more to that preening, strutting cock than that".

Ted Sampley, being the black belt that he is would just stand there and let you hit him? NOT. There wouldn't be enough left of Monkey Man to feed to the hogs!

Haven't seen my dad in 4 years, he's coming out to visit me on Saturday since I'm home chained to the bed for two weeks (surgery).

    I'll pass along the thanks.

From my earliest memories of him (when he was in his 20's) he was bald, think the agent orange did it to him but he has too much pride to apply for benefits that other vet's said he should.

    Here's a sad story.

He was a Marine in 'Nam picked for the Marines via the draft (shortest guy out of the line and picked for the Marines). He carried everything from the flame throwers to the M60's and spent his time on foot going thru the jungles.

He came home and the family had a picnic, his brother (his best friend in the world) joined the Air Force and they both were at the picnic. They ate, then went swimming. His brother started to cramp up and drown so he dove in to save him. My dad was the ONLY one to jump in and try yo save him but his brother was trying to pull him under and he nearly drowned himself. He failed to save his brother and was traumatized by his death...to this day.

He saved countless lives in Vietnam but couldn't save his own brother in a creek at home. Talk about humility before God. It effected him, to this day.

He now is a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Marine Corps League and holds offices in each, (turned down President of one as he didn't want to deal with the politics). He participates in parades and funerals of Vet's in my little hometown.

He's lived one hell of a life, and I don't think anyone will ever see him vote for Kerry.

The Vietnam Veteran's did not die in vain Senator Kerry. You belittled their lives for political gain.

The memorial belongs to all, Kerry and Sampley alike. All are obliged to speak with dignity and reverence in the area. If any of this happened, it was right to have Sampley escorted away, and by attacking another there, he dishonors his own service. Do I believe that Kerry flipped off anyone in public? It doesn't sound in character. He knows that such a display would cost him votes, and he is, after all, a true politician.

    Interstate,

No, you pack it up! Go on! Pack it up![:D]

    Everyone else,

So what happens when this self-appointed guardian of the wall tells those of Asian ancestry, "Your people did nothing to aid us in our war against the communists. I am here to escort you away from the wall."

Or to those who didn't serve? "You have no idea what we went through... this is for those who know. I am here to escort you away from the wall."

I can't stand that sort of grandstanding and in this case it's this Green Beret moron thinking he's got the right to tell others who can or can't visit a PUBLIC PLACE.

EMM, you miss the point entirely and you analogy is totally off base and you know it.

Kerry was confronted becasue he gave aid and comfort to the enemy witrh his actions, because he called his fellow soldiers baby killers and worse, because he told lies and helped present false witnesses to congress to back up his lies about our soldiers.

Nobody and especially no veteran of that war would confont anyone there to pay their respects to our troops. Kerry wasnt there to pay respects, he had his chance to do that and chose a different path, he was there for politicial purpose, to showboart and to try to garner support. Too bad, it didnt work, he was called on it and he showed his true colors, just ans Hanoi John did all those years ago.

Once again, your argument has more holes than swiss cheese.

Good for you, JuJu - X ring!

I happen to know Sampley pretty well, and he has the greatest respect for those that gave their lives in Vietnam.

Similiarly, he has the greatest disrespect for people like Kerry that try to use the war for personal gain -- in this case political gain.

Lurker got it right -- Sampley is more than capable of destroying any adversary --- just for grins I emailed this commo to him, maybe he'll respond to "I can't stand that sort of grandstanding and in this case it's this Green Beret moron thinking he's got the right to tell others who can or can't visit a PUBLIC PLACE".

What a picture that would have been on the evening news. Kerry peeking around his Secret Service protective detail and flipping off a decorated VN vet at the Wall on Memorial Day. Regardless of what was said to provoke him, these are not the actions of a President. God help us all if he's elected.

It's amazing to me that no press cameras caught this at what was obviously a photo op appearance for him. Do unpublished press photos exist? I wonder if the security camera images at the Wall are available through the Freedom of Information Act?
