I can remember Rock Candy when I was a small kid and seeing it disappear from the shelves as I got older.
I also remember Pixie Sticks, Dots on Paper and Waxed "Soda" Bottles.

What do remember?
I bet some of you remember Taffy Pulls from the 1800's.firedevil.gif

The wax "soda" bottles were called Nik-L-Nip. Remember wax lips and teeth? I think a lot of that stuff is still around, just no dime stores to sell it in.

I heard on TV today that Necco wafers is the oldest manufactured candy made. Now they have them in chocolate.

rordog--Cherry Mash isn't dead. Ever had Twin Bings? They're made right here in Sioux City, IA. I had a friend that worked at the Palmer Candy company and could get bulk Twin Bings for $5 when the average "Joe" had to pay $15. It's a good thing he stopped working there. I'd be a lard-*ss by now if he didn't.

Ruger, I can remember when you could walk anywhere in a 10 block area and step into a mom and pop store. Some lived in the back part of the store. The floors were wood, the screen door had a Coke, Pepsi, or Wonder bread sign on it. Big glass candy display case. You could get a Butterfinger for a nickle or splurge and get a super big one for a dime. Penny candies were sometimes three for a penny and you almost got diabetes just standing there. I think that's why thy put it all behind glass to kind of make a barrier to keep your sugar level down. Yeah, I'm old.

Ssshhhhh! Is that the sound of everybodies teeth decaying? The one thing I miss the most from my younger days, was something I used to get when we went camping. I have yet to be able to find them again. It was a pinwheel looking thing made of carmel and some white stuff that was kind of like frosting. As far as I can remember, they were about the size of the palm of my hand. I have found, in a store here, things that are a little bigger than regular carmels that do have the same kind of white stuff mixed in. But they're just not the same. I remember saving months at a time before we'd go camping. All just so I could buy as many of them as I could. The one summer I bought three boxes of them. [:D] Can you say SUGAR BUZZ!![:p]

    Everything that was listed above.
And the candy watermelon slices, sorta like the orange slices but watermelon a penny. Slo-pokes & Big Hunk taffy were good for about an hour for a nickle.
Big cheap soda pops, 101 Cola 18oz bottle for a nickle & 2 cent bottle deposit.
BTW: Not too many trick or treaters, we gots left over..
