What is or was the purpose of the hole in the hammer spurs of some semi-automatic pistols? Thanks. Jim

The theory is: the hole lightens the hammer, allowing it to accelerate faster after the sear is tripped. This reduces "lock time" (see other thread on lock time) - thus improving accuracy.

    It also looks cool.
