Tube guitar amplifier choices!!!

Hey everyone,
I don't know why but it's STILL 100 degrees here in the mid-west, with no rain, and I'd like to know why!?!?!
My actual question is for all you gee-tar pickers out there. I read and read and read about different amps...I've purchased from stores, individuals and Amazon and have yet to be satisfied. I only play in church and small gatherings so mega-watts is not my need. I'm looking for a true 2-channel tube amp with the simplest of controls. I don't want or need amp modeling, 6-reverbs and 40 SFX choices. I want 2-channels and few knobs to control volume and tone.
So, new model or old, and I would even accept a solid state amp if it REALLY had that smooth, dark, smokey tube sound that (I think) only comes from a tube amp. I'm also retired/disabled LE and my budget probably stops at about $300.00.
Any help? Have fun suggesting...I don't want to cause a fuss!
Thanks ahead of time!
Jim

If you have a tube amp you kind of like, but want more out of it; you might want to consider one of BBE Sound's products. I've never used one with a guitar amp, but I do use their 482 Sonic Maximizer in my 2 channel stereo system that has a vacuum tube characteristic preamp and power amp. I set my preamp's tone control to neutral and adjust the Maximizer's Lo Contour and process controls for each channel and it gives me a very warm tube sound. In case you want to check them out, here's the link. From what I've seen, many guitarists use them.

If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!
Old, old Fender.
Yeah, I was gonna suggest a Twin Reverb, but even the re-release is out of his price range!
Just tremolo and reverb....

I know exactly what you mean, though. I had problems getting that same smoky flavored blues tone, so I ended up building my own amp to get it. Basically a mosfet equivalent of a jcm 800 output, with 1 tone and 1 volume control. What helped even more was adding inductors in the speaker cabinet to keep anything over 350 hertz away from the speakers. That keeps it from becoming brighter as you crank the volume up. End result is a nice dark, rich, almost haunting tone that is very responsive when plugged directly in. All effects are applied through a digital pedal and it can take a ton of pre amp at the input and still sound as clean as a bar of soap.
Speakers can make a ton of difference, and that may be all you need. If you already have an amp, I have some infinity 10" 50 watters here I can send you to try out. They sound a lot richer than even the celestion g12's.
Get a small used Fender tube amp without all the modeling crap.
Just tremolo and reverb....
Great to see you posting.
All well?
