I read they tried to cut his tongue out because they thought he was a rat.

Yeah...but it's SOMETHING! [:D]
Strange tale out of Boston. I spent a lot of time up there 2002-2005 and he was big news back then. Apparently he was tied to eleven murders and played the FBI like a fiddle.I may buy the book, should be a good read.
Black Mass is an entertaining movie.
He was killed by a Hit man who was in jail for life. They beat him with a sock that had a lock in it and a shiv.

What are the chances he'd bump into another Mob hitman in prison for wacking another Boston mobsters? Almost like someone wanted them to rub elbows.

Yep. Some never forget.
No, but it was supposed to be a higher security unit.
Leading to speculation that staff may have looked the other way.
Can you explain to me how to ensure the safety and security of every inmate in general population housing?
You have a captive cliental, and plenty of lifer?s who for a payment made to their family back home will make good on a hit. Not to mention guards who will turn a blind eye.
Just ask the families of Jeffery Dalmers victims.

No, but that is not the point, now, is it ?
I can identify vulnerable, high risk inmates that just might not belong in general population.
Especially in gen pop with other Mob linked convicts. Most prisons have gang specialist that look at each inmates history, and they typically avoid putting them in the same pod with rival gang members etc...I would think that would have been considered with such a high profile inmate such as Bulger.

The point is you are blaming staff at Hazleton. The staff at Hazleton did not assign Bulger to general population, the transfer paperwork would detail if the inmate was to be on administrative detention, single cell, general population, disciplinary segregation, wheelchair accessible housing, etc. There may be blame on higher ups in the Bureau but not on the staff at Hazleton.
