I've seen it many times over the years. IMO what it boils down to is a land grab. If you have a good ten year plan you can be a billionaire. First step is to get government control over the land, the next step is to quietly transfer it to the private sector and then develop it quick, before anybody has a chance to complain too much.

How it works is, gain control over a piece of land, declare it closed for whatever reason. No witnesses, no foul called.

Have the closure order enforced by the Sheriffs or whomever, for 3-5 years. Until interest wains.

Then quietly transfer it to the private sector, closed hearing or unadvertised hearing.
Build quick, done deal, then fight it out in court.

In less than ten years you own an asset worth a lot of money and even after paying off the government, you stand to make a killing.

A piece of land you used to hunt, farm or graze, gets closed down tighter than a virgins thighs. Then surrounded by No Stopping signs, government property trespassers will be prosecuted signs and anybody who gets too near, gets ticketed by some Cop.

You go back to that same piece of land ten years later and find a giant hole left by Kaiser mining, a closed gate community or a shopping center.

Even the environmentalists are part of the problem and I often wonder if they aren't in on it from the beginning. I see shopping centers on property that was originally closed as a Bird sanctuary, somehow find it's way into private hands. They even use the process to thieve from one private owner, through the government, to another private owner.

Government takes control of the land "For the public good" then eventually transfers it to the private sector. A win for the government (money) and a win for whomever eventually ends up with it (more money). Few witnesses notice if the process is protracted, those that do are labeled kooks.

I could make a decently long list of prime pieces of real estate this has happened to. Some small, some not so small and some fairly huge.

You ever wonder how a hunting lodge pops up in the middle of a State Forest, with a sign out front "Boy Scout Camp". With a twenty foot bar and the closest thing to a Boy Scout that has ever seen the place, is a Hooker in a Mercedes. Ten miles of "No Stopping Signs" on the road and just a mile from the Ranger Station? The only way you will ever see it is to risk a Trespassing Ticket. A real head scratcher how you can trespass on State lands? Simple really, fighting the ticket cost way more than swallowing the fine and just paying up.

Or they shut down a whole section of State Forest for extreme fire danger and a few years later it turns into a gated community?

Or "La Migra" concentrates its' efforts on a few farmers and in a few years they go broke and the farms end up a housing development. The really sad part is they were usually farms or grazing for a reason. Sitting on an extinct (for the moment) volcano or a major earthquake fault. Land that a hundred years ago was considered marginal for one reason or another, suddenly becomes valuable for the moment.

I've seen them build a shopping center right on top of one of a dozen springs in a very large and arid area and then pipe the water into the city sewer system.

What you can do and what you should do, are often wildly different things. And some people could care less, one way or the other, as long as the make a humping big pile of cash.

Majority of U.S. voters wanted Obama in, now we just have to live with it. Probably another term too [:D]

    +1

But we can blame him anyway, because he likes to follow the orders.

I read about this executive order when it came out. It's either senseless, stupid, dangerous, or all three. Every one serving on the "Rural Council," which we didn't ask for and don't want, is already an anti-American flunky of this administration, and should be in prison.

    In my humble opinion.
