A lot of folks live where they were born and raised.
For some, those areas have seriously slid into bad/dangerous places.
Some of these same people refuse to be driven from their homes by SCUM....So...They CARRY!!

I do not live in a place where I think I have to carry a gun. I carry a gun because poop happens, and who ya' gonna' call?

I carry a pen every day because I might have to write something
I carry a knife every day because I might need to cut something
I carry my reading glasses every day because my arms are too short
I carry a cane every day because I need to be able to walk

I don't HAVE to carry. I CHOOSE to carry. I'm 10,000 times more likely to need to use my carry gun to dispose of a nuisance animal than to face another human, but whatever the reason, I intend to be prepared.

Exactly! I don't know who said it but there is a qoute that goes something like this.

A gun is like a parachute, the one time you need it and don't have it you'll never need it again.

    Or something like that...

We moved where we are because it was a perfect City to raise Our Kid's in. It was the kind of place where Everyone knew Everyone else and We all got along,Kind of a leave it to Beaver type neighborhood.
We didn't have to lock Our Doors or anything like that until a few years ago when the People called White Trash started moving in.
So far I have had My Garage broken in twice and Others have had problem too.
We didn't move into a bad area but it moved in on Us.

I carry IN my home and i live in a nice little town that shuts down at 10PM.
to me it's like wearing a watch.
I feel weird if i don't have it on.

    I don't HAVE to carry.
just Like i didn't have to learn to use my arms and legs to defend myself.

Short term concerns for example, like escaped dangerous criminals?
Local violent crime rate on the up-swing?
    Recent home invasions near you?

    Other stuff going on?

    grumpy nailed it once again

i don't know what fairy tale world some live in, but although we humans are theoretically at the top of the food chain we are also at the bottom of the food chain, we live in a world of monsters and ever increasing as population, millions of people go missing every year, i said it last year here a few weeks before they got discovered RIGHT THIS MINUTE someone is tied up in someones basement, they may be raped, beaten, then eaten, not necessarily in that order

    i have had a friend brutally murdered, decapitated and thrown in a lake, i have friend kidnapped, tied up for 3 days and raped, only found bound and gagged naked after she jumped through a front window found bloody by a neighbor,kidnapped by a guy that slipped her drugs at a bar, took her home where he kept her tied up in his moms basement, i have seen a person get their throat cut by a woman when i was 14, i known more than 1 person that was car jacked, and shot at, i have know 2 people in separate incidences that were robbed, shot and car set on fire while in their cars{one on his 30th b-day}

i can continue if need be, some need to pull their heads out of their butts and spend a few nights with a leo in any city usa

This area I live in is actually pretty safe.

But now have drugs Methheads every where you never know what they will do.

Anywhere within 30 miles of I-5 is bad and I'm in that area its the main way drugs travel to Oregon.

Got my Permit cause we had a motorcycle gang show up. The Mongols really a nasty group and put their headquarters about 20 miles from me. The old Major club in the area the Free Souls I had no problems with.

Gangs have moved north from L.A Mexican and Black.

I can guaranty its the same within any major Hwy.

Even in a quiet small town with no gang problems, no huge drug problems, there can be random strangers that strike without warning. Google Joseph Duncan if you doubt that predators walk among us.

My area has changed a bit in the last 15 years. I'm in the suburbs of Detroit, (20mi.), and subsidized housing has brought not only needy people to our town, but has also brought their kids and their kids' friends. They have different values than I do. Here is one example of how life has changed; it snowed last night and I'm off work today and enjoy shoveling early before dawn. It's whisper quiet, very cold, the snow is of a light weight, and even the moon joins in on the festivities by being a sliver with the remaining entire portion still visible. What a pleasure it is to live in a world of changing seasons. The handgun in my belt makes me feel safe in that simple world.

You have to consider the economics too. I'm an empty nester, a retiree who has gone full time back into the work force with a house that has been paid in full for years. Sure, everybody would like to move to a place where you can fish or hunt right outside the back door, But being content and at peace with myself feels good too. It's worth it to stay here.

    +1000

I lived for 29 years in the heart of NYC, never had any negative happenings with my guns.
Moved to the rural farm area of Tenn. and had a home break in and lost
    34 antique firearms.

    Go figger...

Because when seconds count, the police are minutes away.
I actually don't live in an area where I think I need to carry. I live in a rural area about 30 minutes from a city. We're not too worried about home invasions. Start and leave our vehicle running to warm up in our driveway without worrying about them being stolen. Often go to bed with our front door unlocked so that our daughter can easily get in to drop off her dog when she goes to work at 5AM.
But I drive into the city were such crimes are common everyday to go to work. And we often go there to shop etc.

Why do I drive where I think I "have" to wear a seat-belt?

Why do I live where I think I "have" to have a smoke detector and fire-extinguisher?

Why do I live where I think I "have" to have homeowner's insurance?

It's about evaluating potential risks and making decisions about being prepared for the "what ifs" that can happen in life.
