Ceiling Trusses Going Up.

Got to watch them put up the trusses in the home we are building. Thought some would like to see. The builder hid the seams in the tongue and groove pine under the trusses. They used an electric hoist to get them into position. They weigh about 900 lbs.

    No, this wood is douglas fir from Oregon that was cut and assembled in North Carolina. My wood will be used on the outdoor posts. Windows are now installed too.

    You build the ceiling and the roof first, and then put the trusses underneath it?
    I thought you put the trusses in first, and built the ceiling and the roof on top.

    Anyway, it is beautiful! Nice job!

    Yes, If you want them to be structurally supporting the architect has to have them certified and the engineering red tape is not worth it. They get around it by dropping the trusses below the supporting trusses that have already been approved.

    Thanks, one of the good things about a ranch home (besides no stairs) is that you can get a little crazy with the ceilings. We had them put a barrel vaulted ceiling in the master bath...and a cathedral ceiling in my wifes first ever walk in closet.

    Ladders on top of scaffolding??? Gasp!! Somewhere in America an OSHA compliance dude is having a meltdown!!

    Looks good, cartod! It looks like your builder just might know what he's doing! I really like what you're doing with the different ceilings. That adds a lot of character that you just can't get with a flat sheetrock ceiling. This is the type of place that I love working on (tile and hardwood floors), unfortunately, in my area, those only come up about once every other year or so.

    The meter reads around 15%. I need to get it out and stack it in the basement of the new place and put another load in the green house.

    Homes of the rich and famous, or endebted and unknown, beautiful either way. So 900 pounds of truss that has to be supported and doesn't support? Pure decadence I tell ya. Still beautiful. Consider dropping a couple of Solatubes into that closet vaulted ceiling and you will never turn on a light in the day time. http://www.solatube.com/ We have a dozen on our house with two more to add to the garage.

    Neither are the 5 that are in the front gables. So sorry to dissapoint you. Oh and the mill stone doesnt really grind flour either.

    Sorry for being a wise * retroxler. Yes, they are all decorative or "accent" trusses. To get the look we are going for there are much better more cost effective ways than using mortise and tenon framing. Although the Amish still use this type of framing in there barns, homes today rarely use it. It is hard to insulate, and since the wood goes up green, the structure is always twisting, popping and cracking.
