    JUST HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!

There is one movie -- ONE MOVIE -- that is on the shelves in every ranch house, bunk house, and single-wide trailer house in the American West. It is THE Cowboy movie.

It is "Conagher," with Sam Elliot and Katherine Ross.

Coincidentally, the Mrs. (an impressive cowgirl herself, but that is another story) and I watched it last night. I have to say the story, setting, filming, clothing and equipment leave little to criticize.

As for story line, it is the "perfect cowboy movie."

If you've never seen it, then rent it tonight. Better yet, buy it.

I have to say I like the old and new True Grit. My wife, not a western fan, liked the John Wayne version best. So I guess I'll keep her.

Some Westerns I like--some have been mentioned:
    Crossfire Trail
You Know My Name--Sam Elliot as lawman Bill Tilghman
    Open Range
    Both True Grit movies
    Big Jake
    Cahill:U.S. Marshal
My Darling Clementine--Henry Fonda & Walter Brennan
    Quigley Down Under
    Unforgiven
    The Wild Bunch
    Young Guns 1 & 2
    Blazing Saddles
    Maverick
    Silverado
The Quick and the Dead--hokey yes but still fun
Appaloosa--bet carrying that 8 gauge shotgun all day was a chore
    Geronimo:An American Legend
Last Stand at Saber River--another Tom Selleck western
    The Magnificent Seven
Death Hunt--my fav Broson movie--kinda at the tail end of the Western era but still a great movie.

Whatever you do run FAR away from the hands down worst Western I've ever seen--The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford---a more boring movie I've yet to see than this stinker.

Here's another that's pretty good: Monte Walsh, with Tom Selleck. Made for TV I think, so might not meet the standard for a classic "hollywood" movie.

Still like Conagher best of all.

Fishkiller: keep looking! It might not be popular worldwide, but it is iconic among cowfolk. Elliot is believable, like Wayne was.

Same can be said of Selleck. Has anyone mentioned "Quigly Down Under?" One of my favorite movies of all.
