Strictly an interesting C&P... for today. LINK
quote:TOP FIVE REASONS REPUBLICANS SHOULD TAKE US OVER THE FISCAL CLIFF...

As the clock ticks and we watch the various players move their pieces into place, it's becoming increasingly obvious that Republicans are in a no-win situation. They're ether going to have to cave and agree to a tax increase without meaningful spending cuts or take the blame for going over the fiscal cliff. Here are five reasons why going over the cliff is by far the best option.1. It's a Trap! MORE
2. No Meaningful Spending Cuts Will Happen Between Now and Christmas. MORE
3. Going Over the Cliff Gives Republicans Time to Fix Their Messaging. MORE
4. Real Spending Reform Can Happen Next Year. MORE
5. A Tax-Hike Without Meaningful Spending Cuts Is Meaningless. MORE

Think about it...

And what good did TARP [the 'failed' Obama "BUSH" gov bailout program] do us? Because we panicked and merely held off the inevitable, we're now entering year five of anemic economic growth and unnecessarily high unemployment. Had we stayed out of the way and let the free market do what it does best -- correct itself -- we wouldn't be in the mess we are now. Rather than let the bottom fall out, we spent trillions to extend the time it took for the bottom to fall out -- which has only served to explode the deficit and prolong our economic woes.

This country needs a smart economic plan, not another fast and meaningless one that will do nothing to solve our spending problem.

Democrats are always talking about "shared sacrifice." Let's beat them at their own game and sell a little short-term "shared" pain from some long-term gain in the area of fiscal sanity and responsibility.

Republicans have history, facts, and economic policy on their side. If they can work on messaging and steel their spines, they can not only win politically, they can also do what's right for their country.

But step one is going require the nerve necessary to hold firm.

If Republicans do the right but tough thing, I'm with them. If they cower and cave. I don't even want to think about it.

Sounds like they were deeply rooted socialists... LINK

quote:Cloward and Piven's article is focused on forcing the Democratic Party, which in 1966 controlled the presidency and both houses of the United States Congress, to take federal action to help the poor. They stated that full enrollment of those eligible for welfare "would produce bureaucratic disruption in welfare agencies and fiscal disruption in local and state governments" that would "deepen existing divisions among elements in the big-city Democratic coalition: the remaining white middle class, the working-class ethnic groups and the growing minority poor. To avoid a further weakening of that historic coalition, a national Democratic administration would be constrained to advance a federal solution to poverty that would override local welfare failures, local class and racial conflicts and local revenue dilemmas." They wrote:

"The ultimate objective of this strategy-to wipe out poverty by establishing a guaranteed annual income-will be questioned by some. Because the ideal of individual social and economic mobility has deep roots, even activists seem reluctant to call for national programs to eliminate poverty by the outright redistribution of income."
Michael Reisch and Janice Andrews wrote that Cloward and Piven "proposed to create a crisis in the current welfare system - by exploiting the gap between welfare law and practice - that would ultimately bring about its collapse and replace it with a system of guaranteed annual income. They hoped to accomplish this end by informing the poor of their rights to welfare assistance, encouraging them to apply for benefits and, in effect, overloading an already overburdened bureaucracy."

I would love to see us go off the cliff. It would give the country the douching that it needs.

They will cave, and it is becoming clear that BO is setting himself up for the role of a dictator.

He now wants 'executive privilege' to be used to raise the debt ceiling whenever he feels it necessary. How many issues are going to bypass Congress going forward?

Things have been changing for over a hundred years, but they are changing very rapidly now.[}:)][xx(]

The Democrats are already calling it the "Fiscal Curve" so I have a feeling there's a chance this may happen. When you think of the basics they get out of this - bid defense cuts, higher taxes and an end to the Bush era rates it's not too far away from what they prefer in general.

I believe a country going through recent life "fat, drunk & stupis" should experience a little hurt and consequences. What strikes me as wrong is that those of us who worked hard and played by the rules will be hit along with those who didn't contribute.

I can avoid taxes and minimize exposure as well as anyone. That is what I'll do if the big change takes place.
