try to shorten it up but after 8 years of working on the side as a part time
pizza delivery driver, (25 hours a week) he finally got a raise. he's been told by the owner he is the best driver they had - never lays out.
been asking for a raise for 2 years. makes $7.25 hr. boss caves more or less and gives him $.25 more per hour. a quarter.
he texts the guy back and says that he felt insulted by that and that he, the boss could keep it if that was the best he could do. well his boss, who owns the place sent him 6 snide texts berating him just a little. not bad but just childishly snide comments.
my son didn't send anything back until the next day so he could "get over" the comments and come up with a response w/o emotions being put into play.
his response was as good as you could come up with. all he said was;
"I apologize for being so ungrateful."
no response back so I think he got the message. I mean what else could you say w/o getting pissy right back?
I thought that was priceless. the boss was the ungrateful one here I think.

Now tell him to go to the competition and get a better paying job!!!!

O.k. no disrespect meant at all. seriously, I mean that. He's a working man, after all.
How much more did he expect? It's pizza delivery. I thought that paid like $4.00 an hour plus tips.
Does he get tips?
He will have to work much harder for $15.00-$20.00 an hour around here......
Once again, no disrespect meant. Is there more to the story?

Assuming I'm right and if he really wants/needs this job, he should suck up to the boss.

What makes him a dick?
What makes him a dick is him deliberately giving him a insulting low raise so he can lose his temper and fight with the boss. Then the boss can turn around and fire him in that case and report insubordination to the state where he will not get unemployment payments if he applies for it. [:(!]
What does he make in tips?
If his customers are like most people I know, there is a tax free $10.00 or more per trip that he may be giving up over $ 0.25 per hour.
Figure one trip per hour, the $17.25 with $ 10.00 tax free, SS free, Medicare/Medicaid free, Workman's comp free, Unemployment Insurance free, works out to at least a $ 20.00 per hour position.
A lot to give up over $ 6.25 per week.

Since when did they start paying unemployment for part time jobs?

OK, he basically is paid minimum wage by the company.

I would not know, and it varies by state. But it may be if you make "X" amount of dollars you can get "X" much in unemployment.
He still should have taken the raise, in fact how can he not if it is in his check?
$5 a week is $250 a year, and that is a nice Christmas gift.
Unless he is doing something(s) specifically to increase revenue and profits there has to be a limit or people will eventually stop ordering pizzas when the price gets to high.[;)]
My friend owns a small pizza shop and his drivers get the whole delivery charge. Plus tips. They supply there own vehicle, insurance, and fuel.
I understand that 25 or 50 cents sounds insulting for a raise, but the owner has expenses too. We don't know the whole story.....[;)]
Maybe the rent just went up $200.00/month? insurance increase? had to buy/lease a new pizza oven? dough machine? braces for his kid(s)? and so on.........
Not picking on any one, like I said before it sounds like Rambo's boy is a hard worker. We just don't know the whole story.....
i would have said ...ADIOS...
Yeah 7-1/2 years ago.......

Are you saying that his son evades taxes, or that you would, in this situation ?
Tips are reportable income.
As in "Wages, tips and earnings".
Suggesting that pizza delivery is a reasonably lucrative (at $20/hr) job is a bit on the absurd side, don't you think ?
I think his son did well in his second response, although the initial idea of expecting his boss to accept his request for a raise a bit naive.
I always tip in cash. If the server or delivery person considers it a gift, I support that decision.
Please don?t twist my words again. I didn?t say it was lucrative. He had, as stated, a side job that potentially gave a much greater return than the amount of the raise in question. He was there for 8 years, so it was apparently worth it to him, regardless of whether you consider it lucrative or not.

" What does he make in tips?" Some of the above post imply that just never report the tips you make. I had once this job that I had to drive (over and back) 125 miles a day reporting for work before I was finally transferred back to my home city. A man working the same job as me rode with me on those trips and we would B.;S. on the way over and back. He told me this story. I make no claim for the veracity of it, it's just the way he told it to me.
"I was hired as assistant manager for a pizzeria (I think it was PH, my comment)) and there were about eight people working there. About every six weeks a big van would pull into the parking lot and each employee would have to go in one at a time and be subjected to a voice stress analyser. After a few questions they got down to tips and you had to report the amounts you received. If the test showed you to be lying then you were fired."
I believed him; I couldn't come up with any reason he had to lie to me.
I think the boss should have taken better care of him if in fact he was such a dependable worker.
What is your son's primary job? Maybe it is worth him going to another company to deliver?
Either way, I think he sort of ruined the relationship by responding to the boss the first way...and the boss continued that in his snide replies.
Another job is indicated here. I wish your son success always.
he can't very well ask the customers for a raise. the owner has told me business is better than ever - each year better than the last.
so the 0.25 is 3% but you need to divide that by 8 years with nothing extra.
the owner has the attitude that he's (son) making $12-15 an hour cash in tips and a $2 fee for the delivery so why should he, give any more?
he says Papas only pays $5 hr so go work for them, but their drivers don't much of anything else. this guys place seats 60-70 people and the drivers have to wash ALL dishes. and there are a lot of those every single night. my son closes on the nights he works and so he does the bulk of those whereas the other drivers leave when it slacks off and they are usually so lazy when they know they don't have to close they don't help much with the dishes. and my sons point was that a new guy coming in makes what ???,,, yep, $7.25 an hour and that is not fair at all.
the "gravy" hours there are from 5-8 or 9 depending and they close at 11. so you have newer drivers who are making the same money, only working the hours you make the most money from tips, leaving by 9-930 and his * is stuck there till 12 doing a lot of the inside closing work.
Given the state of the firearms market last year. I was happy to get a 3% raise. ...
Oh, Capt. However will you manage?[8D]
And I'm sure he would have a hard time quitting a job that he gets to see girls do pizza delivery man dares[:I][:I] I know I would[:D][:D][:p][:p][:p]
