A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet

A billion seconds ago it was 1978.

A billion minutes ago was the year 109 AD, roughly 80 years after Jesus ceased walking the earth. The exact date of the Crucifixion is not known with certainty so we cannot nail this one down better.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were indeed living in the Stone Age. This is a broad term and varies by region. There are examples of stone tool use going back 2.9 million years. There are examples of the transition from stone to bronze tools as late as 2500BC. So that roughly sets the boundaries of the "Stone Age".

A billion days ago our ancestors were indeed walking on two feet. They'd been using stone tools for 200,000 years already.

As for $319,000,000,000 in unemployment payouts the bad thing is the necessity of it. Had it not been there we'd have refugee camps all over this country and our economy would be deep in a depression. Luckily we dodged that bomb, but it was a very close call and the danger is not yet past.

If you had a billion dollars, you could spend $100,000.00 a day for over 26 years before you would run out!
