edited April 2012 in General Discussion
My stepfather had a stroke Monday night, and I've been with him alongside my mom and his oldest son most of the last few days. So in the times when there wasn't much to do I would open the laptop and and check e-mail, the news, and of course the forums, and had no problems, other than their wi-fi being a little slow. But today I tried to pull up the gunbroker forums, AND IT WAS BLOCKED!!!![:(!][:(!] Damn commie hospital IT pukes......[xx(][V][V][V]

Had the same thing happen to me a few years back, but I was able to get in through a back door kinda way. Had someone send me an email through GB's email system. Some how I was able to log in off their link. Couldn't log in directly but some how came in the back door.[:(][:(]

Back in 2006 my wife was in KU Medical center and I was spending a lot of time there. The nurses had a computer in each room for their use. I was joking with one that it was to bad they weren't connected to the internet. She said sure they are and set me up. At that time they weren't blocking GB so I managed to spend a lot of hours in the hospital surfing instead of staring at the walls.

Checked the Forum Often when I was in the VA Hospital. But then they liked it when I got on the computer. I 1st had to clear all the junk from someone looking at porn.[:o)]

Don't you know nothin?? Porn is naturel (doesn't every woman take three men simultaneously). Since it is naturel it is good. Guns are not naturel, therefore guns are bad. Since guns can be used to kill that makes them evil. Truely a contest between good and evil.

A perfect example of the liberal mindset.

Interesting topic. I have no experience with hospitals. I have never had a college site thst blocked GB. Some public libraries do. At one time the public library in Wooster, OH blocked GB but since they built a new library a few years ago it is open.
I would like to see more comment on this topic.

Next time you are there try googling gunbroker forums, then click on the cached version.

It's a back door to the forum through most filters.

Call the Hospital administrator, ask for a face to face meeting, then nicely, calmly DEMAND access to GB. You would be surprised how far the Administration of a medical facility will go to prevent problems for the facility.

Last time it happened to me on a paid wireless system I did some port forwarding over a ssh tunnel and set up a no cost ad hoc wireless network...

Maybe hospitals don't like anything associated with guns. For some reason.

There are places I've been that www.gunbroker.com/forums are blocked, however, if I use www.forums.gunbroker.com, I can get to view only (cannot sign in).

Ran into the same problem in Columbia MO. My FIL was in and out of there for months before he passed away. Their filter took out GB and other firearm related sites.....

I had problems at work once, but found that it was the "porn screening" software package that they had bought. Apparently the software vendor was anti-gun. A few complaints about how the package was slowing down our computers, & it was gone.

They can choose to block sites having the word GUN in it.

They just need to block : *.*gun*.com

It will weed out any number of sites having the word GUN before the .COM
They can even just block : *gun*

Seems strange that a hospital will block gun-sites.... now that it's a big contributor to customers in the first place ;)
