Cowboy boots

Who makes a good pair of cowboy boots these days? Ones with actual leather uppers and insoles?

Years ago I got a nice pair of Noconas, but that was before Justin bought them out and started making them with foam soles, cheap leather, and plastic trim.

Same thing happened to Tony Lama.

An elderly couple, Margaret and Bert, moved to Texas.

Bert always wanted a pair of authentic cowboy boots, so, seeing some on sale, he bought them and
    wore them home.
Walking proudly, he sauntered into the kitchen and said to his wife, 'Notice anything different about me?'

    Margaret looked him over. 'Nope.'

Frustrated, Bert stormed off into the bathroom, undressed and walked back into the kitchen
completely naked except for the boots.

Again he asked Margaret, a little louder this time, 'Notice anything different NOW?'

Margaret looked up and exclaimed, 'Bert, what's different? It's hanging down today,
it was hanging down yesterday, it'll be hanging down again tomorrow!'

Furious, Bert yelled, 'AND DO YOU KNOW WHY IT'S HANGING DOWN, MARGARET?'

    'Nope', she replied.

'IT'S HANGING DOWN, BECAUSE IT'S LOOKING AT MY NEW BOOTS!!!!'

Without changing her expression, Margaret replied, 'Shoulda bought a hat, Bert.
    Ya Shoulda bought a hat.'

I found these really nice custom boots with a walking heel and spur lip, but it had a 15 inch shaft. Is it acceptable for a work type boot to have a 15 inch shaft? Ill use the boot to do some horse riding, so I guess a 15 inch shaft would be a plus for that. And several times ive walked up on rattlesnakes, and probably will in the future. So the 15 incher would give me more protection with that. The boot fit like a glove and looked great to me. But what do you real cowboys think? Thumbs up or down? Does it sound right for the job?

The only downside is that the price was pretty high!

I live in SE NC and there are not a lot of places for cowboy boots. I dont want the fancy dandy boots, but some that work for walking or riding, something I can use in cowboy action shooting or just plain hunting. I have several pair I bought when I lived out west but they all kill my feet, like I am walking in high heels.
So anybody know of some good designs and brands. I am not educated in the lingo that goes with the boots so you would have to dumb it down for me.
    Thanks

Ive been trying to find a pair of cowboys that match this description but cant find any.

I looking for a black or dark colored pair of cowboy boots that have a walking or roper type heel, a rounded toe, and high or medium shaft. Ill be using them mostly for walking, light work such as working on foot with cattle, goats, and sheep, and last but not least dancing.

Anything yall know of match that description?

    Didn't know White's made poop-kickers.

Bought a pair of their Farmer/Rancher lace ups when my feet stopped growing. Had them for over 20 years.

the son of a friend had a pair made by some outfit in Texas, but they were nearly $2K;but I'm sure they were top quality leather. I do wonder what they put into a boot that makes them worth $1K each.

I've had VERY good luck with Dan Post Boots. Leather uppers and soles.
I don't see me spending a grand or better on a pair of boots......
Not that I wouldn't like to.

I have about six pairs of fooey kickers, but my Justin slouch boots are the most comfortable. I wear them daily. One pair last about five years.

I've had my Noconas for about 16 years. 3 soles later and they're still in good shape. The only reason I want new boots is for something new to look at on my feet. These are comfortable and just getting broke in.

Nocona boots were made by a Justin. Enid Justin. Company merged back in with the brothers in 1981. (see nocona.com). Good boots, had a pair about 35 years ago.

    Yup. Lucchese.
Diabetic foot pain, I can't wear boots any more. Sold my Lucchese kicks on the bay with a pair of Justins to a guy in Japan! Had me ship them to Kaliforkia.
Kept trying to wear my last Justins, just can't stand it. Just sold them too about a month ago.
I like the looks of Ariat boots and they seem to have nice cushion insoles but they come from China like most things anymore. Got my daughter a pair for Xmas at Tractor Supply. She loves them.
I recently ordered a Tony Llama belt. Surprise. It's made in China.

So the pair of Tony Lama Anacondas that I purchased in 1980 are no longer made? I reduced their wear to "special" occasions, now I guess I'll have to wear them even less.

It is hard to find a decent affordable pair these days that isn't made in China...[xx(]

I have several pairs of Justin's that I wear around the farm, or to just do general work in. They have held up to the abuse, but they are not the same boot you could buy 15 years ago.

I have a pair of Dan Post that fit like a glove, and are the best pair I own. However, I bought them 33 years ago, and I can't say if Dan Post makes them that nice any more.

My dream boots would be hand made from a little om & Pop boot shop I know of in San Antonio. They have a waiting list of about 11 months if you order a pair, and they only deal with the customer in person.

    +1

I tried Justins, Lamas, and on. Then I put on a pair of Posts, and it was like soft gloves, and I no longer 'clunked' around. The 3 pair that I have now, I've had for 12 years. Everything else felt like I was wearing a pair of cement troughs.

I was all set to go on an alligator hunt last Feb, but when I found out how much it would cost to make the beast into a few belts and some boots, we went somewhere else.

My current favorite pair are Stetson full quill Ostrich. Super comfy. wore them to dinner and out on the town in Vegas tonight.

Sounds like you already pulled the trigger. Nicks is also located in Spokane and just as good as Whites and a little cheaper. Nick's is a spin off of Whites a few decades back.

    You said Cowboy boots....

Round here that usually means "dress" boots or ropers

"Work Boots" is a totally different question.

Hunting and Work boots I like Danner but have worn out many other brands as well.

Spent most of last Saturday with my oldest getting her some new boots. Sales people were very attentive but kept bothering me. No, just go help her. I'm looking at belts and shirts while she is boot shopping...
