I saw one converted to 50-110
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_Model_71
added My dad had an solid frame 86 in 33. If it had been a takedown I might have been interested more in it. No clue were it went but it had a very nice butt stock that was pantographed by a now gone friend; thanks Jack D. |

AFAIK, the Model 71 was only made in .348 Winchester. For that matter, do not know of another rifle that came from the factory in .348, EXCEPT for the Browning- which was ALSO a Model 71. |

It was rumored that there were literally a handful in other than 348. I saw one in 45-70 but I don't know that it is factory original. During that time Winchester was known to provide to the customer whatever they wanted if possible, so never say never. |

Yes, it was. In the January 1938 Winchester Salesman catalog, the 33 WCF was listed as a special order option. The 45-70 cartridge also found its way into the Model 71.
Approximately 10-years ago, I began a research project and survey on the Model 71. Thus far I have recorded a total of (1,628) Model 71 rifles. Of that number, (2) are confirmed in 33 WCF, and (2) in 45-70. I have unconfirmed reports of at least three more in 33 WCF. A few years ago, I wrote and published an article on the Model 71 (and discussed the special order calibers).
Have you found one in 33 WCF?

Well, Bert has the Gospel, but I have a story from an old gunzine. A know-it-all collector was talking to a truly experienced collector. The know-it-all said the Model 71 was made only in .348. The real guy said, "ok, look at the gun in the fourth case over there. What does it say? "Uh, Model 71, .33 WCF." "Right, now get out of here." |

Thank you. No I do not have one nor have I seen one. Just was told the 71 was produced in that caliber. My father told me a friend of his had and 86 in that caliber. Thank you. |

Yes, I had an 86 solid frame .33. As Mark Twain said, a bargain is something you do not need at a price you cannot resist. Not being a woods hunter, I eventually traded it off. |
