When he first confronts the Comancheros, four of them ride out to meet him. The mood turns ugly and they go for their guns.

Wales has a single shot rifle in his right hand, and he uses it to kill the first Comanchero. Immediately, he pulls his two big revolvers and goes to work on the other three. The rifle disappeared.

Where did it go? He didn't have time to shove it into a saddle scabbard, and I doubt he would have dropped it on the ground.

Why would you doubt that he would drop it on the ground? Me, I sure as heck would if I was going to face the other three in a fight. I wouldn't waste time putting it in my Scabbard. If he had then he would be the one that is dead. And of course this is just a film but, again it's a lot easier to replace a rifle than your life. So I'm pretty sure he just dropped it on the ground. But it doesn't show it, but it only makes sense that he did

He either dropped it which is most likely, or its just one of those movie things that can't be explained.

Even in slow motion you can't tell.

Its Clint Eastwood. Probably had John Wayne magically hold it for him.

He dropped it like any sane person would do. He could not very well say "excuse me while I holster this rifle before I commence shooting the hell out of you".

Probably just another reason why it's easier to be a Bada$$ in the movies than in real life.

Eastwood bought the book from Asa Carter, self proclaimed "Grand Wizard" of the KKK...and changed the Title for the movie...Carter ran for Gov. of Alabama, but lost...I never knew how he handled the "Horse" pistols...they are big and heavy...Colt Walkers.

Hell is coming to Breakfast
He has to drop it, I don't see it in the scabbard after he fires it and he goes full badass on the rest of them. Great scene!!
Hope he didn't knock the scope loose.....

What else do you do with empty rifle after you shoot someone with it, you stick it up their rear end for final humiliation

By the way Nunn, I think you ought to come out of retirement. It looks like you're watching too much TV now, and have started to believe that movies are true life in action... That makes for a psyche of a school shooter

You don't see Josey reloading either but nobody questions that.

He is portraying someone that Surely has no fear of death.

Unlike panty waste cowards like capgirl, it really doesn't matter to him if he ends up pushing up daisies.

America used to be full of men like Josey Wales.

Today, not so much.

As to the op, I'd have dropped it to my lap, and continued fighting, if it fell to the ground, so be it. Because there were bigger fish to fry.
