Monofilament knots producing heat????????????

Many knots for fly fishing says to moisten the knot when tying to reduce friction and heat in the knot. Can anyone explain how this is a problem in a double overhand, surgeons knot, tied with .007 diameter material or similar knots?

I don't know about that but you can take your fingers dry and 10 lb test and hold it in your fingers and pullet it back and forth and once it gets hot it will be easy to just pull and break.. As far as your statement I think by wetting the line it makes the know pull tighter also.
