Blackhorn 209 in BP cartridges

You load blackpowder until the case is full, no airspace between the powder and bullet. Do you load Blackhorn 209 the same way or does it act more like smokeless powders where you dont have to fill the case? Thanks for the help.

    Actually, you don't have to totally fill the case. You can use measured amounts less than full. With the caveat that you don't want to leave TOO much air space since that can be dangerous. If you are really concerned, you can use an inert filler to take up the empty space. Some people use polyester fiberfill or kapok fiber. That way you can take advantage of lighter loads with less recoil.

    The loading data for 45-70 and 50-70 calls for 37 grains.
