other than paying for placement, what determines a websites placement in search results?
not trying for "how to" but what the driving factors are

have not done any advertising except my tag line, not real high on traffic, but in many searches, even with mis-spellings (like my posts) i am ending up on first to third page of results on almost every search a visitor comes from![:D]

not complaining, but would like to figure out how...

    Which search engine are you using? The "tags" area was commonly used in the old days but it's easily abused so these days a spider will attempt to check for content after an initial check of the tag line. Everything down to the names of the pictures, the (forgot the term) text assigned to the markup, user comments if they are on your page, are all considered. I would not be surprised if certain meta criteria such as if your page was the last one a person stopped on vs immediately paged back to the search engine would be considered.

    You cannot "pay for placement" for guns. The search engines will not take our money.
