When you erase pictures, what's the difference between erase all or format card? Does it hurt to format it all the time?If it doesn't hurt why do they give you a choice? Thanks

I am thinking about giving Travis a decent, but relatively inexpensive digital camera for Christmas. I figure if he goes overseas, he will find things to photograph.

This one looks like a decent value, and is tough and water resistant. I am not wild about the digital zoom, but you can't have everything, I reckon.

Please take a look and give your opinion, or tell me if you know of a better choice for $200 or less.

Can anybody recomend a good digital camera for less than $250? I had that Sony Cybershot in mind, but don't know if there is something better out there.

I am looking at an inexpensive camera from Walmart, its only $99 and for another $50 I can get the docking/charging cradle. Its a
Kodak 3.2 MP EasyShare CX4310 Digital Camera .
I am just looking for something easy to use, cheap, to put my auction photos online. What do you think of this camera?
    Thanks for any info.

Looking for some reccomendations on a high quality, yet affordable digital camera. We have a decent lower-end Kodak that has served us well, but with both of us getting the opportunity to go on a possible "once in a lifetime trip" we would like to upgrade and get something that takes a little higher quality pictures. Not quite sure what we want to spend yet, so all reccomendations are welcome. Thanks,

I need some SLR experts' opinions here. Quick background, I'm going to take pictures for a couple friends' wedding this summer. They have offered to pay me by putting up some money for a camera. I take pictures regularly at football, volleyball, and basketball games. I also take quite a bit of nature pictures and such.

What would be a good choice for between $600-$800? I've looked on eBay for some and I've seen a lot for pretty cheap. I've seen a bunch of Canon Rebel XT 350D. Also, I've seen a lot of Nikon's D40.

What, in your opinion, would be the best value less than $900 for the camera and two lenses. I'd like to get one lens about 18-70 and another one 55-300. Thanks!

Since there are more experts on more subjects on this board then anywhere else on Earth, I have a question. Santa brought me a digital camera. It's a FujiFilm A210, 3.2 pixel, 3X zoom. I am concerned about a little statement on the box in fine writing that says, "Made especially for Window XP".....I have Windows 98. Do you think that will be a problem and do you think the camera will work with Windows 98? No where else in the literature does it say anything about working only on Windows XP. I know you guys are very knowledgable on most things and I trust your judgement. What do you think?

I was thinking about trading up on a digital camera. I have one now that is about three years old, 3 megapixels, but I want a camera that will take movies as well as still photos. Any recommendations? Does anyone make a movie camera that will take still shots also?
    Thanks for any information

I bought my wife a Vivatar and she could not get her Gateway with windows XP to take the software. We E-mailed the company many times for help this was 2 yrs ago and they still havent replied. She finally figured out the software would not work with XP.But we returned the camera and I bought her Fuji from Gateway and its great it will hold 60 pictures before you have to down load it.It will also take short video clips but doesnt have audio.I bought her a Panasonic camcorder last yr for Christmas,so we have never tried to film with it.But Digital pictures are great and alot of fun.Enjoy!

That's like I have a Bushnell Trophy scope, the box says especially made for synthetic rifles. What a joke, you think the scope knows the difference?

All that's happening is that Win98 is no longer being supported. Some new applications will work and some won't.

Win98 (assuming it does work) will be a bit more clunky and harder to get along with. USB transfer may be slow, or in some cases just won't work. Drivers may or may not allow you to take advantage of your new hardware.

I've made a career in the computer business and all I can do is share what I know to be true...

When you purchase a PC, you do it for a three year term. Amortize the cost over 36 months and not one month longer. The PC will probably outlast the three years, but technology moves too fast for the machine to have even a hope of keeping up.

You've spent good money on a Fuji camera. Are you seriously considering a return when an excellent Compaq PC can be had for $500.00?

It just doesn't make sense when you note that $130.00 of the total cost is in the XP OS and that a CDRW, modem, and 2GHz+ CPU and NIC are part of the package. We're talking a nice PC for what amounts to $350.00 in real terms.

Think about what I've shared. Don't return the camera or settle for a PC that just barely works.

My PC is a HP, Windows 98 Second Edition, with 256 MB of Ram, 20.0GB of which I still have 19.1 GB unused space. Also, I'm on a DSL line. It works really fast compared to the old dial up one I had. I've had this system for about 5 years. Considering what I have, what do you reccommend that I upgrade? The Fugi camera cost $200 at Wal Mart. I use the PC for emails and will post pictures. However, 98% of my time on the computer is spent here on the forum. Surprise!
Anyway, thanks for the info and any suggestions on how to make it better would be appreciated.

I have the ME edition of windows, Not as good as 98 IMO , The computer I am on has 98 and nothing wrong with it, its an old 496 and does everything I want it to do, My other one with ME is a 700 mghz Compaq 5000, got a lot of glitches in the Me edition, stick with what ya got, the camera will work just fine, and pics will be easy, I like the program that comes with the camera, cause it automatically stores the pics for ya.

Thanks Classic/Blackroses...One last question if you don't mind. When I go up in the hills and take pictures of the old moss horned bucks wadeing in belly deep snow, how many pictures will this camera store before I have to download them? Thanks....

I have taken 16 pics so far without downloading....the extra cards are not expensive...at least not at Target or Wallmart...and if you want pics to store in an album, just take the card to the processor and slip the other one in...Voila...ready to go again

Im sure itll work with 98, but i have a fuji finepix 2650, and when you plug it in via the usb cable to the computer on windows xp, a window will pop up and ask you what you want to do, then you just choose FinePix Viewer

Win 98 (and older OS) is more likely to crash when you unplug the USB cable from the camera or 'puter. Win XP is more stable in this reguard. My old 450 with Win 98 had trouble with the Sony Digital camera, XP has no problems.

If you tried a P4 'puter with Win XP you would waste no time getting a newer model. They are that much better!

Cards? What cards? ARGHHH! I hate complicated things. I'm too old to learn. I'm going back to bed......maybe I should take this camera back and trade it in on a Ruger 10/22. I'm getting discouraged........

They are memory cards...little tiny cards that fits in the same place or almost where the battery goes..it is what holds the pics until you download...With this camera, it gives you an Disconnect ICON, at the tool bar. before you shut the camera off after downloading pics to the comp, just click on that Icon and a window will appear that says its ok to disconnect the camera. Just READ the Booklet that comes with the camera, it is not confusing at all.

Blackroses, once again you have saved my life. I was almost ready to give up. Doesn't take much for me to roll over and play dead anymore. I'll take your good advice and read the instructions...duh! Last resort....[:D][;)]

Classic...Win ME is another word for virus. I ended all my pc problems by formating to XP PRO. It will find drivers for the software you lost to printers, etc.,and has it's own version of photoshop for your pics. CRIMS40...If your pc will support it, add another 256mb's of RAM and get XP Home or Pro edition. RAM cards are easy to install and compusa.com or surpluscomputers.com always have sales specials on them. The difference between XP and 98SE is like dial-up and DSL.
