I rolled in after my shift to be assaulted with a pungent "I don't know what is that smell" from the new people. I saw a "grand mother" looking thing a few days ago taking out the trash. Think that old woman from the movie "Gran Torino". Haven't seen her chawing mouthful of Red Man (yet). Also they're a new kind a "Asian" that leaves their shoes outside. They must be trusting or maybe a subtle way of showing off their force? But seriously how can you fear people with size 6 shoes? Now remember this was at 0830 in the morning so gawd only know what they're cooking while I'm sleeping.

When I was in Japan for about a month 1994 or so every one took ther shoes off before entering a house
cultural thing to prevent wear and damage to the floor I would have bet you knew
Also many like 40 yrs ago, i was on a construction site. Building a hospital addition .
An apartment complex next door had a lot of Indian families I think the entire complex was all indian not that was bad all smeemed friendly however The Spicy food smell when al were cooking was so strong it was over powering some days at least to me
Living in Hawaii for a few years has ruined my ability to wear shoes in the house. I just HAVE to take them off.
Shoes are NOT welcome in my house either. Thats the 1st thing that has to come off apon entering!
Think about all the crap and germs that you step in on a daily basis! Thats just nasty.

A long time ago, I lived in an upstairs apartment with a Korean family living in the one below. Some weird smells entered my apartment from their cooking.
I do the Mr. Rodgers when I come in through the doors (no slippers). Why because public toilets have sticky floors and I don't wanna track pee in my pad. But these people take their shoes off and leave it outside is odd. Also now they have a shoe rack that's 4 levels high (that's like 10 pairs of shoes?). I'm beginning to wonder how many are are residing in this "two bedroom" unit?
So yesterday they had their front door wide open. I'm assuming to air out what they were cooking. Kind a smelled like chicken? Still not sure what they are maybe Flipanese?
You should go introduce yourself. You might discover a whole new culinary experience.
Years ago I lived in an apartment complex and my neighbors were Cambodians that had escaped Pol Pot's purges. Tough folks. Sometimes they would have absolutely mouth-watering smells coming from their apartment. Other times it smelled like someone was boiling raw sewage.
Cambodian. That never crossed my mind. I imagine their eats would be similar to Vietnamese (I already got one of those next to me and they're like me they keep to themselves. Excellent neighbors.) not these new ones.
It has been a tad over 50 years ago after my future bride and I moved into an apartment where our neighbor across the hall was an (India) Indian princess with her family. They were nice folks but my younger self did find the strange cooking smells a bit hard to get used to.
Even harder, was all of that STRANGE music coming from that place!! 😮
Brookwood - There was a tv show "Outsourced" where the "boss" was placed on hold and the hold music was Indian. He described it as pocketful of change in a dryer. To me they all sound shrill with the same singer. Now I assume the cooking smell (like the singing) would be basically the same. Curry.
