Charlie Daniels Fights Flag Song BanManagement at Country Music Television, which broadcast a concert this weekend in Nashville, Tenn., held in honor of the victims of last month's terrorist attacks on the U.S., thought a song composed by country legend Charlie Daniels was too violent and might offend Muslims, so they nixed it from the program.Instead of knuckling under, however, Daniels pulled out of the event, which had been billed, ironically, "Country Freedom." "I felt I would spit in the face of 7,000 people who lost their lives if I would submit to that kind of political correctness," Daniels told WTN-FM Nashville radio host, Steve Gill Tuesday morning.CMT told Daniels that his song, "It Ain't No Rag, It's a Flag" -- which he wrote in response to the terrorist attacks -- didn't comport with the concert's spirit of "healing."But Daniels told Gill that the healing spirit hasn't hit him just yet."There are 7,000 people dead, and 7 month old babies with Anthrax... it's a time for healing? We should put our arms around these people (who did this)? Hell no!""It Ain't No Rag's" lyrics most definitely echo Daniels' fighting spirit:"This ain't no rag, it's a flag,And we don't wear it on our heads. It's a symbol of the land where the good guys live. Are you listening to what I said?"Now we're comin' with a gunAnd you know you're gonna run.But you can't find no place to hide."We're gonna hunt you downLike a mad dog hound.Make you pay for the lives you stole."We're all through talkin'And-a messin' around. Now it's time to rock'n'roll."Tuesday afternoon, Daniels told nationally syndicated WABC Radio host Sean Hannity that when he showed CMT "It's a Flag's" lyrics, management told him, "You cannot do that song. We're afraid you'll offend somebody. It's too radical."As for the line, "and we don't wear it on our heads," the country star said he meant terrorists, not Muslims in general. "It's very obvious that I'm talking about the terrorists. And I'm certainly not talking about anybody who wears a Turban or anything else on their heads."Hannity's reaction to Daniels composition? "I think you've got a number one hit there." http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.shtml?a=2001/10/24/142908

i agree that its not right to accuse everyone who wears a "rag" on their head. not all arabs or muslims participated in attack and not all support it, so not all should be blamed. the lyrics should be chamged to directly address the terrorists without including all muslims. as for threats against those who are to blame, right on! tell them we are coming to kick their *!
    i never make misteakes.

So not all Muslims sould take offense. If you didn't participate in the Sept. 11, massacre and if you didn't rejoice in it, then the lyrics don't apply to you.Change them, HELL. Leave them alone.

I saw Charlie Daniels at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth about a month ago. The old guy still puts on a hell of a show.

I kinda lost my love for CDB when he changed the lyrics to "Long Haired Country Boy" and started putting out Gospel albums. It sounds like he's back in form raising redneck hell again.

Better not change a thing - Go Admin. I happen to be the first Cowboy to ever dance on the dance floor, as they were building Billy Bobs. Me and a buddy of mine were walking through delivering some tools while they were building this in 79-80. They had just layed in the hard wood floor and I had to get out and do a little two step while all the guys laughed...

Nunn: I was there for a weekend trade show. It was rough - long hours and the show floor was very hot and humid. The Billy Bob's thing was part of the trade show. Believe it or not it was the closing night reception.GunBroker has a full-time employee in the Ft. Worth area. Is that near you?
